**Overview**
**The College of Veterinary Medicine is hiring for an Animal Health Research Fellow I-IV to join our team!**
In this role, the Research Fellow will assist in others' and conducts original research to include planning, maintaining or completing research programs and/or projects involved in the discovery of new knowledge, techniques, and concepts which require advanced level scientific/research knowledge, skills and abilities following relevant policies, procedures, regulations and laws. Specifically, conducts research and calculates statistics to evaluate host-pathogen interactions, genome assembly and comparison, and evaluation of protective responses in cattle.
**Responsibilities**
+ Serve as a member of the AHR Team. Assist in the development of complex project proposals, plans, and protocols and research designs with a focus on bovine virology and immunology.
+ Designs and conduct complex, AHR experiments, investigations and/or studies related to programs and projects in pursuit of new knowledge, techniques and concepts specific to bovine virology and immunology. Develop new research areas to complement andexpand the existing program. Assists with existing AHR projects and grants, providing essential support and critical reviews to ensure project success.
+ The areas of new research include metagenomics: metagenomic profiling, metagenome assembly and annotation, metagenomic surveillance. Comparative genomics: genome assembly, genome annotation, variant calling, genome comparisons, pangenomics,and phylogenomics. Bioinformatics: NGS data handling and processing, bash scripting and command line applications, high performance computing. Biostatistics: community and population analysis, R scripting.
+ An understanding of molecular techniques, cell culture, and sample processing would be useful.
+ Facilitates preparation of research results for publication or presentation at conferences to include performing literature reviews and writing results and discussions.
+ Writes grant proposals targeting funding to advance agriculture-related sciences that will ensure the long-term viability of agriculture. Prepares grant applications and generates preliminary data to support the grant proposal with the goal of being more competitive for research funding.
+ Serves as an instructor and/or supervisor to other researchers and students in the area of expertise. May provide consulting to third party organizations related to research activities in the area of expertise.
+ Performs other, related duties as assigned.
**Qualifications**
Level I:
+ PhD in Animal Health or a related field
Level II:
+ PhD in Animal Health or a related field
+ 2 years of experience in research practices and protocols
Level III:
+ PhD in Animal Health or a related field
+ 4 years of experience in research practices and protocols
OR
+ Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) - Animal Health and experience in research practices and protocols and virology
Level IV:
+ PhD in Animal Health or a related field
+ 6 years of experience in research practices and protocolsPhD Animal Health and 4 years of experience in research practices and protocols
**Minumim License and Certiications** :
+ Valid Driver's License Upon Hire Required
