Mechanical Engineer, Sr – Machine Design SME
Sedron Technologies is hiring a talented Senior Mechanical Engineer- Machine Design SME!
Preferred Location : While this position is remote, candidates residing near our Bellingham, WA or Sedro-Woolley, WA offices are strongly preferred.
Founded in 2014 and headquartered in the Pacific Northwest, Sedron Technologies designs, manufactures, installs, and operates advanced water and waste upcycling technologies. With a focus on transforming the paradigm from waste processing to resource recovery, Sedron Technologies works with municipal, agricultural, and industrial customers to process their “waste” into climate-smart commodities through environmentally and financially sustainable methods.
Sedron Technologies is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer that’s an expert in heavy industrial machine design to lead the design, development, and integration of advanced industrial equipment. You’ll work on custom mechanical systems overseeing projects from concept through manufacturing and commissioning. You’ll provide technical leadership to develop high-performance, reliable, and efficient machinery that transforms “waste” into climate-smart commodities for municipal, agricultural, and industrial customers. Join us to apply your expertise to large-scale, innovative machinery with real‑world environmental impact.
Because we design, build, commission, and operate our technologies, we are looking for individuals who can meet the following essential functions of the position:
Lead the design and development of heavy‑duty industrial machinery, ensuring structural integrity, reliability, and performance under continuous high‑load operations
Design and integrate rotary equipment components including shafts, bearings, bushings, seals, gear trains, and couplings, ensuring performance and reliability in demanding process environments
Create and manage detailed CAD models, engineering drawings, and specifications for large‑scale equipment assemblies and sub‑systems
Perform advanced engineering analyses (FEA, CFD, fatigue, vibration, thermal) to validate designs and optimize equipment durability
Collaborate with manufacturing, automation, controls, and maintenance teams to ensure designs are safe, serviceable, and cost‑effective to produce
Drive root cause analysis and corrective action for equipment failures, implementing design improvements to reduce downtime and extend machine life
Support the full product lifecycle — from concept and prototyping through production, testing, installation, and field performance monitoring
Evaluate and qualify materials, components, and suppliers to meet industrial performance, safety, and regulatory standards
Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership across multidisciplinary project teams
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on energy efficiency, reliability, maintainability, and total lifecycle cost reduction.
This position allows for growth and career progression to be determined by performance, certifications, and supervisor discretion.
Benefits
Multiple medical, dental, and vision insurance options to keep you feeling your best
401(k) with employer matching — free money for future you
Generous paid time off and paid holidays (plus 2 floating holidays to use your way)
Disability, Life, and AD&D Insurance
FSA and HSA options with employer contributions
Tuition reimbursement — we invest in your growth
Casual work attire — no suits required (unless that’s your thing)
Education/Experience
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field is required
10+ years of industry experience in designing, developing, and commissioning industrial equipment
Proficiency in NX or equivalent CAD software for 3D modeling and drafting
Advanced understanding of steam tables, pump and fan curves, enthalpy changes in fluids, and fundamental materials and manufacturing principles
Hands‑on design experience with rotary systems, including bearing selection (roller, ball, fluid film), lubrication systems, shaft alignment, and seal design (mechanical, lip, labyrinth)
Design experience involving bearings and seals, large weldments, machined parts, and piping systems desired
Working knowledge of bolted joint analysis, FEA, drawing creation/GD&T, and tolerance analysis desired
Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
Proven ability to lead projects from concept through completion, balancing technical and operational priorities
Experience mentoring and leading technical teams
Must have effective verbal, reading, and written communication skills in the English language
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field preferred
Experience with rotor dynamics, vibration analysis, and condition monitoring of rotating equipment
Familiarity with API, ASME, and ANSI standards for pumps, compressors, seals, and rotating machinery
Knowledge of advanced tribology principles related to friction, wear, and lubrication in industrial systems
Field experience in installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of large‑scale rotary equipment
Physical Requirements
Include if applicable for role (examples of requirements below)
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks
Ability to pass a respirator fit test
Comfortable working in various environments, including heights, confined spaces, and varying temperatures
Ability to stand, walk, and bend for extended periods of time
