GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Public Citizen seeks an energetic leader with strong organization and interpersonal skills to serve as Student Organizer for our Democracy Campaign. The Student Organizer will report to the Democracy Team Manager and is one of two student-focused staff on the team. They will build a student organizing program with a special consideration towards college campuses, engaging young people across the country in resisting anti-democratic efforts through issues that matter most to them.

RESPONSIBILITIES

(25%) Outreach & Recruitment – Outreach and build relationships with youth leaders and campus-based groups, assess the landscape, and identify strategic partnership opportunities.

(40%) Coaching Student Leaders & Managing Interns – Support students with training and coaching, manage a cohort of interns, and lead a summer events program in DC to energize campus organizing.

(15%) Communications – Lead coordination of digital and traditional communications internally and with coalitions, helping campus groups promote their organizing to press and social media.

(20%) Program Development – Design, plan, and implement a student training and organizing program that encourages campus and community engagement against attacks on student rights, college funding, and democracy.

Role and responsibilities may shift over time.

QUALIFICATIONS

At least three years of strategic student organizing and mobilizing work.

Experience running and winning a campus-level campaign around student rights.

Experience designing and implementing large-scale student campaigns across multiple locations.

Strong organizational, planning, and leadership skills.

Excellent interpersonal skills.

Passion for ending the democracy crisis and advancing racial and economic justice.

Independence and strong self‑motivation.

Ability to lead, support, coach, and manage others, including interns and campus leaders.

Desire to create a more inclusive movement, embracing diversity and respectful disagreement.

Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced environment, balancing multiple projects while maintaining accuracy.

Collaborative team player with high energy, enthusiasm, and openness to learning new skills and organizing models.

Willingness to travel to visit students on campus regularly and to work long hours as necessary, balancing commitment to work‑life and grassroots mobilization.

Skill in data management, graphic design, short‑form social media videos, grassroots training, and creative action tactics.

SALARY AND BENEFITS
Competitive salary and generous benefits package. This is a two‑year position with a salary range of $70,114 to $101,455.
