Job Description
The Purchasing Coordinator supports project delivery by accurately assessing material needs, coordinating procurement activities, and maintaining clear communication between suppliers, project managers, and production teams. This role combines blueprint reading, quantity takeoffs, and daily purchasing tasks to ensure that materials are available on time and at competitive prices. The position offers exposure to diverse projects and materials, along with the opportunity to work closely with both office and shop personnel in a collaborative environment.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with project managers to gather information required for material quantity analysis.

Review blueprints, plans, and specifications to determine accurate quantities, dimensions, and measurements of required raw materials.

Prepare detailed quantity assessment documentation and cost estimates to support project reviews and bid proposals.

Coordinate with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain quotes, pricing, and lead times for materials and services.

Purchase materials for assigned projects and manage daily shortage orders to prevent production delays.

Maintain purchasing and project documentation related to material quantities, pricing, and procurement activities.

Order and manage standard materials related to inventory, including monitoring stock levels and supporting cycle counts.

Assist with inventory entry, pricing adjustments, and write‑ins as needed in the relevant systems.

Communicate material availability, delivery status, and changing needs with the production department.

Identify new products, alternative materials, and process improvement opportunities to enhance efficiency and cost‑effectiveness.

Work collaboratively with the purchasing team, engineering, finance, and leadership to support overall project and business objectives.

Visit the shop as needed to interact directly with production teams and gain a clear understanding of materials and products being fabricated.

Essential Skills

At least 3 years of purchasing or procurement experience.

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plans, and specifications to determine material quantities, dimensions, and requirements.

Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for tracking quantities, costs, and purchasing data.

High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience working in environments related to construction or manufacturing.

Strong attention to detail and accuracy in quantity assessments and documentation.

Effective communication skills for coordinating with project managers, suppliers, subcontractors, and production staff.

Ability to manage multiple projects and daily purchasing tasks in a fast‑paced, production‑focused setting.

Organizational skills to maintain clear and complete purchasing and project records.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Experience in the manufacturing or construction industry.

Knowledge of project coordination processes and procedures.

Familiarity with inventory management practices such as cycle counts and stock monitoring.

Ability to identify process improvements and suggest new products or materials.

Comfort working both in an office environment and on the shop floor when needed.

Interest in working with a variety of materials, including wood, steel, and concrete.

Ability to collaborate effectively within a cross‑functional team that includes engineering, finance, and leadership.

Work Environment
This is a full‑time, on‑site role with a typical schedule of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with some flexibility on start time as long as a full eight‑hour workday is completed. You will work as part of a small purchasing team in the office alongside engineering, finance, and upper management in a standard, collaborative office setting with cubicles and private offices. The culture is fun and fairly laid back while remaining fast‑paced and production focused. The role offers frequent interaction with shop personnel, and you will have the opportunity to go out to the shop floor to discuss material needs and see products being built before they are delivered to construction sites.

Job Type & Location
Contract to Hire position based out of South Whitley, IN.

Pay and Benefits
Pay range: $22.00 - $26.00/hr.
