Role description
Function as the process engineer on industrial water/wastewater projects
Apply processes and technologies for physical/chemical primary treatment, biological treatment, membrane treatment, adsorption, filtration, disinfection, thermal evaporation and crystallization
Receive technical mentoring and guidance from a senior process engineer
Delegate engineering or scientific calculations/drawings to junior staff
Collaborate with multi-disciplinary design teams to implement complex treatment solutions, and support implementation of projects from study phase through design, construction, startup and commissioning, and operation and maintenance of treatment systems
This is a hybrid work position. Client facilities and projects are located throughout the US, with some international assignments. Preferred locations include Houston, Dallas, Raleigh, Indianapolis, Minneapolis, Tampa, Denver, and Philadelphia; however, other locations may also be considered.
Role accountabilities
Assist in developing and preparing process design drawings, specifications, calculations, plans, and other technical deliverables for a variety of industrial water projects
Field work will be required, including but not limited to surveys/data gathering, construction quality assurance, inspections, bench‑and pilot‑scale treatability testing (at client sites or in our lab in Cary, NC), etc.
Assist with system commissioning and start‑up, including training plant staff
Prepare and make presentations to clients and for professional meetings
Manage projects as necessary to meet both client and Arcadis’ expectations
Supporting business development including proposal preparation and meetings with clients, and travel as needed for meetings, site visits, etc. (up to 25%)
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Civil, Environmental, or Mechanical Engineering
Minimum of 5 years of progressively increasing responsibility in the industrial water/wastewater field
Valid driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree or PhD in engineering or a related field of study with focus on wastewater treatment process engineering
7+ years of experience as a professional engineer registration in one or more states
Experience
Possess a good understanding of different types of industrial wastewater treatment systems
Designing water and wastewater projects and preparing construction documents including mechanical drawings, P&IDs, specifications, control narratives, technical reports and memoranda, operation and maintenance (O&M) manuals, etc.
Engineering calculations using computer software (Excel, Mathcad, etc.)
Experience writing and editing equipment and piping specifications
Effective collaboration and coordination within a multi-disciplinary project environment
Provide mentorship to early career engineers
