Overview
Substation Technician / Substation Electrician (Traveling – Florida Projects)
Location: Florida (Statewide Travel Required)
Schedule: 4x10s (Overtime Available)
Pay: $28–$38/hour (based on experience) + Benefits (per diem, etc. see below)

We are a full-service EPC contractor specializing in substation and switchyard construction projects across the state of Florida. Our work includes both greenfield builds and brownfield upgrades, delivering high-quality infrastructure ranging from small substations up to 500kV systems.
Our crews travel from project to project, building critical power infrastructure from the ground up—once one substation is complete, we move on to the next.
Position Overview
We are seeking a
Substation Technician / Substation Electrician
with hands-on experience in above-grade substation construction. This role is ideal for someone with a solid foundation in substation work who is looking to continue building their skills in the field.
You’ll be responsible for installing and assembling high-voltage equipment while working as part of a crew to safely and efficiently complete project work.
Important Note
This role is subject to a maximum home-base-to-project distance due to safety and travel considerations. Candidates must live within a reasonable commuting/rotation distance to Florida.
We do not offer relocation assistance—candidates must be willing to relocate to our operating area
prior to starting
if necessary.
Key Responsibilities
Assist with installation and erection of substation steel structures and above-grade components
Install high-voltage equipment, including:
Circuit breakers (including SF6 breakers and basic gassing procedures)
Power transformers
Disconnect switches
Surge arresters
Insulators and bus systems
Perform switchgear installation across various manufacturers and configurations
Assist with protection & control equipment installation and wiring
Support commissioning, testing, and energization activities
Perform retrofit work, upgrades, and equipment changeouts
Read and interpret basic prints, one-lines, and construction drawings
Follow all safety protocols and contribute to a safe job site
Work closely with foremen and senior technicians to complete daily tasks
Qualifications
2–5 years of experience in substation construction or related electrical work
Basic knowledge of high-voltage equipment installation
Familiarity with substation drawings and layouts
Exposure to switchgear installation is a plus
Willingness to travel throughout Florida for project assignments - must use your own vehicle but we do reimburse mileage and we pay Per Diem too.
Ability to work a 4x10 schedule with overtime as needed
Strong work ethic and commitment to safety
Preferred:
Experience with SF6 breakers
OSHA 10 or other safety certifications
Previous experience working on utility or industrial electrical projects
