The Opportunity
We are looking for skilled and experienced Excavator Operators local to the Portland, OR area to join our team on the ground floor! The position reports to the Construction Manager and represents an excellent opportunity to join an active, well-funded team, gain valuable experience, and advance your career as GRC grows.
Responsibilities
Operate various types of heavy equipment, such as excavators, dozers, backhoes, compactors, articulated dump trucks, and/or front-end loaders.
Ensure equipment is in good working order at all times.
Possess skill, coordination, and awareness to operate heavy equipment in a safe manner with precision and efficiency.
Will operate heavy equipment for long periods with continuous attention to detail and safety.
Maintain consistent communication among field crew members by use of hand signals or radio to align and position heavy equipment properly.
Restore and/or landscape disturbed areas of the job site.
Responsible for site set‑up and clean‑up.
Load and unload tools, materials, and equipment on the truck.
Will be involved in new site Job Safety Analysis (JSA) prior to starting construction.
Set up safety perimeter using signage, cones, and safety barriers and, at times, flagging traffic.
May be required to work overtime, after hours, on weekends, for emergencies, or be on‑call as work is needed to ensure work is completed.
Ability to follow instructions.
We tend to stay local to Oregon but may move around the state; some out‑of‑state work may take place.
Required Qualifications
1 year of excavator experience.
1 year of general construction experience.
Valid driver’s license.
On‑call and weekend availability.
Travel required.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with FTTH or FTTX.
Class A CDL.
Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and organizational skills.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Understanding of basic utility construction processes and terminology (a plus).
Additional Information
Hourly Range:
$24 – $28 per hour (based on experience)
Schedule:
Day Shift Monday – Friday; Night Shift Sunday – Thursday
Travel Requirements:
100%
