Job Title: Process Engineer

The Process Engineer supports machining operations by driving process efficiency, improving CNC lathe performance, and ensuring consistent, high-quality output. This role provides hands‑on technical support on the production floor, bridges engineering and machining functions, and leads continuous improvement initiatives across equipment, tooling, and standard work.
Responsibilities

Support operations and manufacturing leadership to ensure efficient and reliable machining processes throughout the shop.
Provide hands‑on technical support for twin‑spindle and Swiss‑style CNC lathe operations, with a focus on optimizing performance and resolving issues quickly.
Troubleshoot Fanuc CNC controls, including part programs, tooling, offsets, and multi‑spindle logic, performing hand programming when needed.
Monitor setup activities and lead efforts to reduce setup times by identifying excessive durations, process variability, and opportunities for standardization.
Lead and support 5S implementation and sustainment, including tool organization, kitting standards, workplace organization, and regular workplace audits.
Design, machine, or modify tooling and fixtures to improve repeatability, safety, and overall process capability.
Support the development, refinement, and documentation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) to capture best practices and maximize machining efficiency.
Collaborate closely with operators, engineering, quality, and production teams to improve machine processes, standardize setups and tooling, and ensure smooth workflow.
Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance productivity, reduce waste, and improve the quality of final products.
Ensure that work flows efficiently through all required processes to consistently yield high‑quality finished parts.
Essential Skills

At least 5 years of CNC machining experience, including hand programming of CNC lathes.
Strong experience working with Fanuc CNC controls, including troubleshooting and optimization.
Hands‑on experience with twin‑spindle lathe operations.
Process engineering experience in a machining environment, ideally as a Lead Machinist with advanced setup responsibilities.
Proficiency in process improvement and continuous improvement within a manufacturing setting.
Solid understanding of tooling, fixtures, and their impact on repeatability, safety, and process capability.
Experience implementing and sustaining 5S methodology in a production environment.
Ability to bridge engineering, machining, quality, and lean initiatives to support operators and improve machine processes.
Additional Skills & Qualifications

Experience with Swiss‑style CNC lathe operations is preferred.
Familiarity with twin‑spindle and Swiss‑style CNC lathes from leading manufacturers is beneficial.
Experience in manufacturing engineering or process engineering within a machine shop environment.
Demonstrated ability to standardize setups and tooling to improve efficiency and consistency.
Strong problem‑solving skills and a hands‑on approach to troubleshooting equipment and process issues.
Ability to develop, update, and maintain clear and effective standard operating procedures.
Interest in and commitment to lean manufacturing and continuous improvement practices.
Work Environment

This role is based in a machine shop and production environment, with approximately 80% of the time spent on the shop floor and 20% in an office setting. You will work closely with machinists, operators, and engineering staff around CNC equipment, including twin‑spindle and Swiss‑style lathes with Fanuc controls. The environment emphasizes safety, organization, and 5S principles, with a strong focus on teamwork and supporting operators.
