
Shipping, Receiving, and Blending Technician

Our Safety‑Kleen Refinery in East Chicago, IN is looking for a Shipping, Receiving, and Blending Technician. The role involves receiving, sampling, and unloading inbound bulk shipments of used oil by railcar and trucks, often within confined spaces. This position is an excellent entry point for a career with Safety‑Kleen.
Union wage : $21.77 per hour
Schedule : 8‑12 hour shifts rotating day and night, including weekends. Flexibility required.
Health & Safety : priority 3‑6‑5. Overtime opportunities weekly.

Responsibilities
Ensure that health and safety compliance and working conditions are met at all times.
Sample all inbound rail cars, trucks, and trailers of used oil.
Prepare and submit samples for lab analysis, and enter data into the UNIX computer system for tracking and accounting.
Unload rail cars, trucks, and trailers into the used oil receiving tanks.
Operate branch trucks and track mobile to position for unloading.
Perform daily inspections as required by environmental permits and MARSEC (USCG) requirements related to Homeland Security.
Act as a switchman for rail switches, conduct tests, LOTO, and prepare equipment for repairs.
Fill out permits.
Organize and maintain truck and rail unloading areas.
Perform other duties as required.
Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent.
1–3 years of experience in manual labor in industrial, refinery, or construction settings (preferred).
Experience with railcars, tankers, blending, and filling (preferred).
Ability to obtain a TWIC card.
Forklift experience preferred.
Experience with confined space or hazmat work an asset.
Team‑oriented with positive attitude and conflict‑resolution skills.
Comfortable with computers and data entry.
Physical capability to lift up to 50 lbs, work at heights and in confined spaces, climb ladders, and stand for long periods.
Ability to work rotating shifts, including first, second, and night shifts.
Valid driver’s license required.
Knowledge of hydraulics and mechanical aptitude an asset.
Dependable with good attendance.
