$100M+ nonprofit organization
seeking an experienced
Assistant Controller
to join its Finance & Accounting leadership team. This role reports directly to the Controller and oversees day-to-day accounting operations while playing a key role in audits, compliance, and process improvement.

What You’ll Do
Review and approve recurring financial transactions and activities
Identify errors or inconsistencies and recommend corrective actions
Lead month-end close timelines and account reconciliation schedules
Prepare audit workpapers and support annual financial and employee benefit plan audits
Coordinate completion of Forms 990 and 990-T, including UBIT calculations
Supervise payroll and general accounting staff
Maintain and strengthen internal controls
Document accounting processes and identify opportunities for efficiency improvements
Partner with leadership on ERP and planning/budgeting system maintenance and reporting
Participate in the annual budgeting process
Maintain hands‑on knowledge of all accounting functions and provide coverage when team members are out
Perform other duties as assigned
What We’re Looking For
Proven experience overseeing or managing an
organizational budget of $40M+
Strong GAAP knowledge and hands‑on general accounting experience
Advanced Excel skills required
(must be able to confidently discuss formulas and complex spreadsheets)
Experience with Oracle Fusion
preferred , or multiple years with other ERPs such as
NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Great Plains , or similar
Prior experience preparing or overseeing
Form 990 / 990-T
filings
Strong communication skills and a collaborative leadership style
Comfortable rolling up sleeves and stepping in for team members as needed
CPA or CPA‑track strongly preferred (required for top of salary range)
Nonprofit accounting experience highly desirable
