PURPOSE: Pursuing Progress‑Sustaining Success. The City of Brookfield is looking to hire an experienced Civil Engineering Technician (Drafting and Design) to join our Public Works team.
Responsibilities Promote and maintain positive departmental public relations and image with customers, including other City departments and staff, developers, contractors, engineers, property owners and the community.
Act as a liaison between contractors, City administrative staff, and the general public.
Perform civil design utilizing AutoCAD Civil 3D.
Draft construction plans and miscellaneous drawings as required, including assistance to other City departments.
Assist engineers in design layout of projects and quality takeoffs.
Assist with GIS and Asset Management systems updating and utilization.
Perform engineering and mapping drafting work.
Gather and display survey data, including topological and design data.
Maintain a daily record of all work performed, record measurements, and complete daily reports.
Answer questions regarding the City’s annual public improvement programs and respond or refer complaints.
Organize, create, and update as‑built and other records.
Utilize computer office software including Microsoft Office, Adobe, and Bluebeam Revu.
Review shop drawings and material submittals for conformance with City Standards.
Additional Engineering Technician Responsibilities Advise engineers regarding quality of work and processing of payment estimates.
Assist with address inventory, creation and maintenance.
Assist with permit and diggers hotline administration.
Perform survey work for various City departments as requested.
Operate survey instruments, including total station, data collector, theodolite level, and various hand tools.
Observe construction practices and techniques of contractors on public works projects.
Verify construction meets requirements of contract specifications.
Maintain field notes with calculations, entering notes into computer filing system.
Record all angles, distances, and descriptions for each job.
Identify potential problems to the contractor and the engineer; consult when requirements are not followed.
Record discrepancies and changes on a discrepancy list throughout construction.
Qualifications Engineering Technician II (Preferred) Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology.
At least 4 years experience with drafting and design.
Proficient use of AutoCAD Civil 3D.
Basic knowledge of public works construction principles and practices, public land boundaries, and survey.
Familiarity with construction plan reading, surveying, GIS, public works inspection, and utility marking preferred.
Valid State of Wisconsin Driver’s License.
Engineering Technician I (Preferred) Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology.
At least 2 years experience with drafting and design.
Proficient use of AutoCAD Civil 3D.
Basic knowledge of public works construction principles and practices, public land boundaries, and survey.
Familiarity with construction plan reading, surveying, GIS, public works inspection, and utility marking preferred.
Valid State of Wisconsin Driver’s License.
