Operations & Maintenance Technician
Location: Bakersfield, California
Job Summary
As Operations & Maintenance Technician, you will join our Operations team. You will report to the Operations and Maintenance Supervisor. You will be responsible for monitoring the status of all plant equipment and systems on a continuous basis and responding to alarms by taking appropriate corrective actions, and executing plant shutdown and start‑up procedures as required. You will assure that the plant meets its generating requirements while operating in a safe and efficient manner. Key Responsibilities
Health and Safety
Have a strong working knowledge of the ContourGlobal Health & Safety Management System and its respective safe work practices, i.e., Permit to Work, Management of Change, Contractor Safety etc.
Coach and mentor facility employees through engagement on proper safety behaviors, use of the ContourGlobal Management System and its respective expectations and through ongoing participation of health & safety activities, i.e., inspection, incident investigation and visible felt leadership.
Verify job tasks are adequately reviewed prior to initiating work and when changes occur in the work environment or tasks requirements.
Ensure all incidents and potential adverse events (i.e., near misses) are quickly communicated to Plant leadership and health & safety site/regional support.
Main Duties
Perform routine rounds of the facility inspecting all machinery thoroughly for potential malfunctions and/or failures.
Maintain all logs and records as required to record complete operating conditions for the facility; report any irregularities to the shift supervisor.
Maintain safe and economical control of all facility equipment as directed.
Start‑up and secure equipment under normal and emergency situations, from the DCS or the field.
Perform facility water chemistry tests and control treatment chemicals within recommended limits.
Regenerate the pressure filters, softeners, and demineralizer system when necessary.
Adjust equipment, as required, for maintaining safe and efficient operation of the facility.
Operate manually, if necessary, any facility equipment.
Perform maintenance work as needed within individual skills and abilities and perform simple or complex maintenance work, up to capabilities, as assigned.
Perform routine and complex maintenance work on a variety of electrical power delivery and control devices, such as motor controllers, variable speed drives, and uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems.
Operate heavy equipment, including a boom truck, forklift, flatbed pickup truck, and/or other utility vehicles.
Operate the station overhead crane and perform routine and non‑routine rigging work.
Assist in the implementation and upkeep of the overall preventative maintenance and spare parts inventory tracking system.
Comply with all facility environmental, health, and safety policies and procedures.
Identify hazardous and/or unsafe conditions or work practices; notify supervisor and take action to correct as required.
Assist in scheduled and forced outage maintenance work and assist in scheduling of outages, work planning, and spare parts procurement.
Complete other tasks, as assigned by the Operations & Maintenance Supervisor. Physical requirements include standing on feet for extended periods, requiring stair and ladder climbing and routinely lifting fifty (50) pounds.
Protective equipment, such as hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, and others, are required to be worn in the performance of some duties. Work with hazardous materials may be required.
This position requires working twelve (12)-hour rotating shifts, with the possibility of overtime, weekend, and holiday work; as required by schedules, workloads, and plant conditions.
May be required to work around rotating and energized equipment, hazardous materials and chemicals.
Driving on company business is a requirement of this position and as such, the incumbent shall have and maintain a valid driver’s license.

Effectively use the organizational framework to capture, implement, and reward improvement initiatives.
Encourage the team members to identify and initiate improvements and innovations that will enhance the maintenance department safety and reliability, work productivity, cost reduction, and quality of client service.
Qualifications and Skills
A high school diploma or equivalent is required and a minimum of two (2) years of operations experience.
Ability to understand procedures and instructions, specific to the area of assignment.
Maintenance experience in a process manufacturing or power production setting.
Demonstrated ability to operate and maintain a power plant and related auxiliary equipment.
Excellent verbal and writing communication skills.
Must have excellent organizational skills.
Ability to work well with others and be self‑directed.
Ability to use most common computer programs such as Microsoft Excel, Word, etc. is desirable.
Strong mechanical skills and the ability to perform routine maintenance on other electrical control equipment such as protective relays, voltage regulators, inverters, battery charges, and crane controls is preferred.
Travel Requirements: None.
Hourly rate: $25.76 – $38.64 per hour, depending on experience.
