Description
Kern Regional Center is one of 21 private, non-profit regional centers contracted by the State of California through the Department of Developmental Services (DDS) to coordinate community-based services and support for individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. Kern Regional Center services over 10,000 individuals in Kern, Inyo and Mono Counties. Our counties cover approximately 22,000 square miles with a population of over 945,000 people.
The Community Services Specialist will engage in resource development for Kern Regional Center’s (KRC) catchment area (Kern, Inyo and Mono Counties) that includes participating in the Request for Proposal (RFP) process. This position will involve all steps of vendorization as outlined in California Code of Regulations, Title XVII. The position will provide program evaluation and technical assistance to staff, vendors, clients and the community on resources, regulations, unmet needs and quality assurance. This position will ensure services provided to individuals supported are in compliance with Title XVII, the Lanterman Act, State and Federal Regulations, Agency Standards and best practices for community programs for individuals with developmental disabilities. A knowledge base of regulations is strongly recommended. This position must collaborate with the vendor community, Community Care Licensing, and with the Department of Developmental Services.
Requirements
The Ideal Candidate
Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, sociology, business administration, public administration, or related human services field from an accredited school; and
Three years of experience in case management, community organization, or two years post‑graduate experience
Any combination of education and experience may be considered
A diverse background in working with individuals with developmental disabilities
Possession of a valid California Driver’s License and State automobile insurance, and acceptable driving record substantiated by a DMV printout
Full use of automobile or ability to provide for independent transportation
Must be able to drive to various sites as assigned on a daily basis
Knowledge of
Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook or similar software applications
Basic needs and approaches in working with individuals who have developmental disabilities
Current legislation and regulations as it relates to the development, implementation and evaluation of services for individuals with developmental disabilities
Resource development, as it relates to developmental disabilities
Title 17 Regulations and the vendorization process

Salary range for this position $25.37 to $35.70 per hour
