Responsibilities & Qualifications
Responsibilities
Identify and distinguish properties and types of copper cable
Identify and distinguish properties and types of fiber optic cable
Interpret blueprints
Inventory job supplies and materials
Verify and comply with site safety plan
Perform labeling according to a labeling scheme
Build telecommunication spaces (e.g., TRs, ERs, EFs, TEs)
Install bonding infrastructure
Install cable support systems
Prepare telecommunication outlet at wall
Install cut‑in rings (cavity box)
Prepare telecommunication outlet at floor
Prepare telecommunication outlet at utility column and/or modular furniture
Prepare telecommunication outlet at other locations (e.g., ceilings, hazardous, exterior)
Install sleeves, cores, and slots
Install poke throughs
Install cable trays, ladder racks, and continuous cable support systems
Install J‑Hooks
Install raceways
Install Inner Duct for fiber optic cable
Install cable supports systems under the floor
Install firestop and/or smoke barrier system
Perform cable pulling setup
Install pull string or rope in conduit
Pull horizontal telecommunication outlet cable (conduit)
Pull horizontal telecommunication outlet cable in open ceiling
Pull backbone‑riser from top down /bottom up
Remove abandoned cable
Perform pre‑termination functions
Perform copper IDC termination (multi‑pair)
Perform copper IDC termination (four‑pair)
Perform fiber terminations
Perform fiber optic splicing (e.g. fusion, mechanical)
Perform fiber cable test at Tier 1 certification (power meter)
Perform Tier 2 fiber testing using OTDR
Perform fiber cable basic troubleshooting (e.g., power meter or VFL)
Perform fiber cable advanced troubleshooting using OTDR
Adhere to local, state, and federal fire and/or building codes and/or standards
Required Qualifications
Obtain and maintain an active Secret clearance within 12 months of hire.
5+ years of cabling experience in the data communications industry.
Must be able to install cable infrastructure, communications equipment and materials, Ethernet, and fiber cabling including termination and testing as well as installing/removing overhead equipment mounts.
Experience in interpreting technical documentation and performing work per industry‑standard installation practices.
Must have Aeriel lift training
Must have Confined Space training
Must have Forklift training
Must have ten (10) Hour OSHA Basic Industry course
Skills
Strong understanding of telecommunications and data cabling systems, materials, and testing procedures.
Ability to install and terminate copper and fiber cabling infrastructure.
Proficiency in coordinating and documenting technical installation processes.
Physical capability to perform manual tasks in physically demanding environments.
Excellent organizational, multitasking, and problem‑solving skills in high‑pressure scenarios.
Certifications
Obtain and maintain active BICSI Technician, Installer certification
Other Certifications: BICSI Level 1 and / or Level 2 copper and fiber as required.
DoD Approved 8140 Baseline Certification within 12 months of the 8140 requirements fully vetted and clearly identified.

Requires standing, walking, sitting, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Must lift up to 10 lbs regularly, and up to 25–50 lbs frequently. Vision requirements include close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
