Job Overview
The Stephen Gaynor School is seeking a proactive and skilled Maintenance Technician to join our dedicated facilities team. This role is essential to maintaining a safe, functional, and welcoming environment for our students and staff. You will handle a wide range of technical tasks from MEP repairs and HVAC monitoring to furniture assembly and event setup while ensuring all campus systems meet our high standards of excellence. As a vital member of the Gaynor community, you will also be expected to engage in the school’s mission of inclusion and equity. Essential Functions
Complete work associated with all door hardware components; locks, closures, hinges, etc
Complete general plumbing repairs (faucets, flush‑o‑meters, soap dispensers, etc.)
Complete minor electrical repairs, including installing light fixtures and changing light bulbs.
Inform management if/when tasks are to be completed by an outside vendor
Erect and install shelving units
Give instructions to new, temporary or vendor employees
Inspect equipment for safety and efficient operation
Maintain workspaces in a clean, organized and safe manner
Maintain equipment in a clean, safe and operable condition
General maintenance of grounds, including snow removal, as needed
Respond to service requests for various work items, including the setup and take‑down of furniture and equipment for a wide variety of events
Assists with all furniture moves & equipment moves
Assemble new furniture
Report all damages/repairs needed to the Building Manager and/or Director of Facilities
Assist with material and supply requisitioning
Take delivery of materials and supplies
Attend full faculty and staff meetings

Qualifications & Skills
Minimum of 5+ years of experience in a general maintenance capacity in a school or commercial environment.
MEP engineering experience for an HVAC servicing company or large commercial / hospitality entity.
Boiler License (preferred)
HVAC and/or Refrigeration certifications (preferred)
F60 certification required (G60 certification preferred)
OSHA 10 Certificate (preferred)
Observe OSHA standards at all times
Experience with Building Management Systems (BMS) preferred.
Has a good command of the English language, with good oral/written communication, and the ability to maintain routine records
Ability to exercise independent judgment/solid decision‑making skills while anticipating customer needs.
Is service‑oriented, with the ability to adapt, prioritize, take initiative and multitask.
Can demonstrate good interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with all internal and external contacts.
Understanding of methods, equipment and materials used in general maintenance work, including cleaning chemicals, while being physically fit and willing to work in the presence of dirt, dust and fumes.
Ability to maintain buildings in a safe, clean and orderly condition.
Understanding of proper methods of storing equipment, materials and supplies.
Ability to operate power tools and equipment used in general maintenance.
Able to stand for extended periods of time.
