
Production Maintenance Tech - 1st Shift, 9/80

PURPOSE
This position is primarily responsible for the repair and maintenance of production equipment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Basic knowledge of mechanical and or electrical skills preferred.
Language Skills
Ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
Ability to write correspondence.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Other Skill and Abilities
Diligent, punctual and disciplined. Able to manage own time to meet objectives.
Flexible and willing to adapt work pace and methods to handle changes, prioritization and meet deadlines.
Autonomy – is able to work alone and assume responsibility after an appropriate training period. Puts own line of sight to good use and exercises discernment in making decisions and taking action.
Ability to learn mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, steam and related system functions.
DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Includes the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Routine inspections of mechanical equipment.
Repair of air cylinders, hydraulic pumps, water jet vacuum systems, punch presses and pneumatic equipment after appropriate training period.
Changing molds for production, hookup.
Repair of vacuum systems, punch presses pneumatic equipment.
Schedule flexibility to support critical deadlines may be required.
Provide assistance as needed to others within the group.
Requirements
Education and/or Professional License(s)/Experience
(2) year Technical Certificate from college, technical or vocational school; or 5 or more years related experience preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Position Supervises
This is a non-supervisory position.
Contact with Others
Internally, must be able to communicate effectively with fellow employees and machine operators at all levels of organization.
Physical/Mental/Communication Requirements
Employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; manual dexterity to handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee may lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by the job may include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The individual must have a high level of comprehension, and a high level of general, verbal, written, and numerical intelligence.
Work Environment
Works majority of the day in a climate-controlled environment, with the exception of or otherwise specified, performing work in the warehouse or manufacturing areas which are subject to changes in temperature and/or noise.
Travel
Generally, travel is not required.

Gentex’s Carbondale facility is located in Northeastern Pennsylvania in Lackawanna County. Carbondale, PA is about twenty miles north of Scranton, PA, 50 miles south of Binghamton, NY, and about 125 miles from New York City and Philadelphia. The area hosts numerous nearby state parks, nature preserves and local colleges and universities, including The University of Scranton and Marywood University.
