Overview
The Johnson County District Attorney's Office is looking for a motivated and compassionate Trial Assistant to join the Child In Need of Care (CINC) team within our Juvenile Unit. This role supports attorneys working to ensure the safety and stability of children and families in our community. The Johnson County District Attorney's office is located at 150 W Santa Fe Street, Olathe, KS 66061.

Job Responsibilities

Conduct legal and factual research into statutes, cases, and records using a variety of legal resources; verify citations in legal memoranda and briefs; summarize legal documents.

Provide administrative assistance for legal proceedings; procure and prepare evidence and assist with presentation of evidence utilizing a variety of technologies; draft/compile legal documents; assist in preparing case files, jury trials, hearings and post-trial dispositions; maintain calendars and lists for hearings, dockets, and courts; complete general correspondence and assist in courtroom proceedings by transcribing court oral orders; copy, file, and distribute documents.

Assist with investigation and review of cases; may assist attorneys in analyzing witness testimony by corroborating testimony through researching documentation, depositions, and court records.

Prepare jury instructions, coordinate witness arrangements, prepare exhibits, copy audio/video taped evidence, deliver and/or retrieve equipment to/from courtroom; respond to inquiries and provide information; notify/inform parties, witnesses, and attorneys of status of case and explain various legal programs, policies, procedures, and ramifications.

Job Requirements
Minimum Job Requirements : Associate’s degree in Paralegal Studies, Business Administration, Public Administration, Office Administration, or related field and one year legal support, including legal research support experience are required. May require KS/MO driver's license, depending on department or agency.

Johnson County Government requires reference/background screening for all positions. Specified criteria may vary by Department/Agency.

Preferred Job Requirements : Professional Paralegal Certification is preferred.

Experience may be substituted for degree. Education may be substituted for experience.
