Job Summary
The Sr. Linux - System Design Engineer exercises good judgment and is responsible for working independently with minimal instruction whilst making sound decisions to resolve moderately complex system design challenges. This role works on non‑routine assignments and resolves moderately complex issues that impact one's own area. The Senior System Design Engineer designs, develops, and tests moderately complex systems and features, contributing to technical discussions and documentation. This role may provide guidance to junior engineers on specific tasks and projects.

Overview
Designs, develops, and tests moderately complex system features and components with minimal supervision.
Leads the technical design and implementation of small to medium‑sized projects.
Participates in code reviews and provides constructive feedback.
Creates and maintains comprehensive technical documentation for assigned projects.
Troubleshoots and resolves moderately complex technical issues, escalating complex problems as needed.
Collaborates effectively with cross‑functional teams to deliver high‑quality software solutions.
Proactively identifies areas for improvement in system design and development processes.
Key Responsibilities
System Development and Maintenance: Design, deploy, and manage Linux systems (RHEL) across physical and virtualized environments.
Automation: Develop and maintain automation scripts and tools using Python, Bash, and configuration management systems (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef) to streamline system administration tasks and infrastructure provisioning.
Security and Compliance: Work with the security team to conduct internal security assessments on our systems according to the Enterprise Security Standards.
Work with the Privacy and Legal teams to conduct privacy assessments on existing and new systems.
Implement and enforce security best practices (e.g., hardening, patch management, access control, auditing).
Monitoring and Performance: Implement and manage monitoring, logging, and alerting systems to ensure high availability and performance.
Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for systems, configurations, and operational procedures.
Collaboration: Collaborate with development and QA teams to support application deployment pipelines.
What you Bring (Key Skills and Qualifications)
Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) or equivalent.
Minimum of 5 years of experience as Linux System Administrator in a production environment.
Expert‑level proficiency at scripting in Python and Bash with a strong focus on system automation.
Proven experience with configuration management tools (Ansible strongly preferred).
Demonstrable experience conducting security and privacy assessments or audits (e.g., compliance checks like ESS, RWI, SIA, PIA, GDPR).
Preferred Skills and Expertise
Experience using Git (preferably GitLab) and GitOps is very strongly preferred.
Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
Familiarity with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (e.g., Terraform).
The salary range for this position is $124,230.00 - $198,630.00. Actual offer will be based on your qualifications.
Pay Transparency
Red Hat determines compensation based on several factors including but not limited to job location, experience, applicable skills and training, external market value, and internal pay equity. Annual salary is one component of Red Hat’s compensation package. This position may also be eligible for bonus, commission, and/or equity. For positions with Remote‑US locations, the actual salary range for the position may differ based on location but will be commensurate with job duties and relevant work experience.
