Job Description
This role is SEASONAL; the work is performed between the months of May - September

Job Summary
The primary function of an employee in this class is to perform pest control, herbicide, and pesticide applications, cleanup, and maintenance of vehicles and spraying equipment. The primary duties of this role are performed outdoors and may involve working in adverse weather conditions, and exposure to hazards such as spraying equipment and hazardous chemicals.

Key Responsibilities

Weed and Gopher Control and Research

Survey the county for noxious weeds and gophers, map problem areas, and inform landowners about control regulations

Conduct weed treatments, collect specimens for study, and maintain identification records

Equipment Maintenance

Maintain, calibrate, and perform basic repairs on motorized, mechanical, and application equipment

Chemical Application

Review chemical labels and safety data sheets, calculate application rates, and mix chemicals correctly

Operate a motor vehicle with spraying equipment to apply herbicides and pesticides

Assist in recording spraying services, including the extent of operation and fees charged

Other Duties

Train and supervise seasonal technicians

Perform all work duties and activities following county policies, procedures, and safety practices

Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications
Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of county geography; read and interpret road maps

Familiarity with EPA guidelines and regulations

Understanding of regulations and policies for safe herbicide and pesticide application

Safe operation of basic power and hand tools

Operate, adjust, and monitor spraying equipment

Basic motor vehicle maintenance

Safe and correct operation of a four-wheel drive vehicle

Work cooperatively and constructively with county employees and the public to deliver high-quality public service

Follow written and oral instructions accurately

Communicate effectively with the public and county employees, especially in sensitive situations

Maintain accurate spraying records, logs, and documentation

Perform basic mathematical computations in determining percentages for chemical concentrations

Special Qualifications

First Aid and CPR certification may be required

Maintain an Idaho Professional Applicators License through recertification (Laws and Safety, and Agricultural Herbicides)

Must successfully complete a background investigation

Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED is required, and some knowledge of agriculture preferred

Two years of related work experience performing herbicide and pesticide application preferred

Essential Physical Abilities

Clear speech with or without reasonable accommodation, to effectively convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly and/or quickly.

Sufficient clarity of hearing with or without reasonable accommodation to enable the employee to hear average amount visual acuity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to comprehend written work instructions and work orders, inspect heavy equipment and automotive parts, fluid levels, and equipment operation, and make necessary repairs.

Sufficient manual dexterity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to operate a variety of automotive shop tools including hand and power tools, electronic diagnostic and related specialized equipment, and adjust equipment.

Sufficient personal mobility, flexibility, agility, strength, and physical reflexes, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to lift 100 pounds. The principal duties of the position are performed outdoors and may include working in adverse weather conditions and hazards involving the use of spraying equipment, hazardous chemicals and gopher traps.
