The Industrial Design team is seeking a talented and passionate Principal Industrial Designer to work on our next‑generation of devices and accessories. You will join a unique and gifted multidisciplinary group of engineers and scientists engaged in a fast‑paced mission to deliver new products. The role requires balancing cost, schedule, and performance while demonstrating leadership, technical competence, and meticulousness.

Key Job Responsibilities

Deliver all aspects of the physical experience, from concepts and prototypes to production.

Lead and collaborate with designers, researchers, engineers and program managers to create holistic product experiences at the highest standards.

Translate a customer‑centric design vision into simple, intuitive, and visually refined concepts.

Apply an exceptional eye for detail, form, and proportion, embracing a highly iterative design approach informed by the latest technologies and industry trends.

Communicate proposals and specifications to other teams and disciplines within the organization at all levels.

Lead demanding projects, pushing the limits of industrial design while collaborating with discipline and departmental leaders.

Advance industrial design practices through deep technical understanding and mastery of best‑in‑class methods and processes.

Demonstrate thought leadership, influence within and outside the organization, and build consensus for cross‑company implementation.

About the Team
The Devices & Services Experience Design (DxD) team leads user experience and industrial design innovation across Amazon’s device portfolio—Echo, Fire TV, Fire Tablets, Alexa.com, and related mobile apps. Our team works at the intersection of design, product, and engineering to create meaningful hardware and software experiences that enhance customer lives.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design or related field of study

Experience owning and leading design projects, either independently or leading a team

Ability to lead and mentor design team and more junior design team members

Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience

Excellent sketching and 3D craftsmanship

Proficiency with 3D modeling packages (Rhino/SolidWorks), 2D packages (Photoshop and Illustrator), and 3D rendering (Keyshot)

Digital design portfolio included with your resume

Preferred Qualifications

Mastery of fundamental design disciplines and a passionate user‑centered design advocate

Demonstrated ability to present a comprehensive design point of view through multiple channels

Proven ability to prepare production‑ready data and documentation

Capacity to manage ambiguity, work autonomously, and multi‑task in an agile environment

Excellent visual, verbal, and written communication skills

Deep understanding of manufacturing processes and industry standards

Proven teamwork ability and drive

Willingness to travel (domestic and international)

Compensation and Benefits
The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
