This position is based onsite at our Bell Ozark facility in Ozark, AL, and includes frequent collaboration with our headquarters team in Fort Worth, TX.

Flight School Next - Flight Safety
This role is essential to Bell’s mission of delivering the U.S. Army’s next generation flight training program. As a key member of our team, you will shape the safety foundation of the program by developing, implementing, and maintaining policies, procedures, and standard operating practices that meet Bell and regulatory requirements—while ensuring safe, reliable support for daily flight training operations.

What You’ll Be Doing as a Flight Safety Officer

Lead and manage all elements of the Aviation Safety Management System (SMS), including Safety Risk Management (hazard reporting, Flight Risk Assessment, and related processes), Safety Assurance (verification that safety controls are in place and effective), Safety Promotion (safety communications, stand downs, and awareness efforts), and Safety Policy.

Partner with the leadership team to develop, update, and maintain the school’s flight operations manuals, local flight procedures, and ground handling procedures. Ensure consistent application of policies and procedures to support safe, effective daily training operations.

Collaborate closely with the General Manager, Enterprise SMS and Environmental Health and Safety to ensure facilities, processes, and procedures align with the Flight Safety Audit Program, SMS framework, and Just Culture principles.

Work alongside a team of flight instructors, collateral duty Flight Safety Officers to ensure safe operations across all training activities and locations.

Collect, monitor, and analyze Safety Performance Indicators to assess the health of flight operations safety. Provide SPI results and insights to leadership and the customer as required.

Qualifications
Skills You Bring to the Role

Bachelor’s degree in a technical or engineering field

Minimum of 8 years of military aviation experience and at least 4 years in aviation safety

Night Vision Goggle (NVG) and/or Night Vision Systems flight experience

Qualified military rotorcraft aviator

Graduate of a military Aviation Safety Officer course, preferred.

Ability to obtain an FAA Class II medical certificate within 1 year of hire

Minimum of 500 helicopter Pilot in Command (PIC) hours and/or 1500 total flight hours
