Position Overview
Griffen Plumbing & Heating is seeking a full-time Estimator / Project Manager to play a crucial role in the company’s construction operations. This role is responsible for supporting piping and sheet metal construction projects from bid through close-out, by preparing accurate estimates, reviewing plans and specifications, developing scopes, and coordinating pricing with vendors and subcontractors to ensure competitive and profitable project proposals.
Key Responsibilities include
Estimating piping and sheet metal construction projects.
Review plans and specifications for completeness and prepare RFI’s for additional information as required.
Assist with project management for construction projects sold.
Prepare shop and as-built CAD drawings for construction projects as required.
Obtain installation permits as required.
Order equipment and materials; issue purchase orders to vendors and subcontractors.
Prepare project scopes and procure quotations from vendors and subcontractors.
Negotiate with vendors and subcontractors for favorable pricing.
Ongoing job tracking of projects in progress.
Assist in resolution of problems that arise during construction projects.
Continually update sheet meal and piping estimating software to ensure accurate material costs.
Perform post-mortem analysis on completed projects, comparing estimated costs to actual costs incurred.
Manage project close-out documentation, including as-built drawings, warranty letters, start-up reports, balancing reports, IOM’s, etc.
Stay abreast of current technology and construction methods to continually improve production and quality.
Utilize Dropbox to maintain organized job files for Sales Engineers and field personnel.
Skills and Experience Desired
Experience estimating and supporting design build piping and sheet metal construction projects.
Strong ability to read construction drawings/specifications and prepare accurate scopes, RFIs, and cost analyses.
Solid knowledge of HVAC/mechanical systems - 5+ years of experience
Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills with the ability to manage multiple projects through close-out.
Proficiency in CAD and estimating software is preferred.
