Summer Internship – VIDEO
Deep South Today, Jackson, MS, United States
Reports to:
Mississippi Today Managing Editor
Mississippi Today is seeking an energetic and enthusiastic student to spend a summer in our newsroom as part of our paid internship program.
Mississippi Today immerses students in journalism with real‑world work, training and connection‑building with working journalists.
Interns have the exciting opportunity to produce video content, to learn the systems and tools used by media professionals and to serve as a critical part of our community news team.
Areas of focus for interns may include filming, editing, graphics, storyboarding and social media distribution. Ideal candidates should demonstrate proficiency in video production programs like Adobe Premiere, Adobe After Effects, CapCut, etc.
Internships are offered for an 8‑week period, beginning June 8, 2026, and ending August 7, 2026, with a pay rate of $16/hour. At the completion of the program, the video intern will have a portfolio of produced videos and will receive production credit on any of Mississippi Today’s long‑form projects to which they contribute.
We welcome students from a broad range of majors and areas of focus. Applicants must be able to demonstrate strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
Interns often have the opportunity to pursue work in the field, and are responsible for their own transportation to news assignments. Knowing your way around Mississippi is a plus, but not required.
Interested candidates should apply below. Be sure to include a copy of your resume and 1-3 examples of video clips that you have available.
Requirements:
Current college student (junior or senior preferred)
Laptop that can be used for writing assignments
A valid driver’s license, and proof of insurance, is required
Mississippi Today is an equal opportunity employer and values diversity at our company. We encourage applications from all qualified candidates, regardless of race, religion, national origin, gender, age, disability, or veteran status.
