Overview
The position is responsible for providing comprehensive intake and ongoing support services to adult wards under guardianship. This includes conducting investigations of the ward’s residence to locate important personal documents and assets, coordinating with family members, caregivers, and service providers, and assisting with applications for public benefits and identification documents.
Responsibilities
The position involves extensive fieldwork—visiting clients, assessing their living conditions and well-being, and ensuring their safety and access to necessary services. It also includes transporting and accompanying wards to medical appointments, court appearances, and other essential activities; preparing required reports and documentation; purchasing necessary items; exploring community resources; and maintaining accurate client records using designated software.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
Education: Graduation from high school. Work experience that demonstrates the ability to read, comprehend, and apply written directions, or a high level of verbal skill may be substituted for lack of high school education.
Specialized Experience: Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in providing supportive services to social workers, vocational rehabilitation specialists, public housing managers, or other professional workers in programs such as public welfare, family court, vocational rehabilitation, and public housing; including clerical tasks, transporting clients and materials, explaining services to clients or tenants, and assisting in overseeing group activities.
Substitutions Allowed
Training received at an accredited college or university may be substituted for experience on a year‑for‑year basis up to a maximum of three (3) years.
Satisfactory completion of a social service aid and assistant curriculum at an accredited community college, technical school, or junior college resulting in a Certificate of Achievement, Associate of Science, or related degree may be substituted for experience on a year‑for‑year basis up to a maximum of two (2) years.
Selective Certification Requirement – Driver’s License
Requires a current and valid driver's license to operate a motor vehicle.
Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Requirement
Applicants may have contact with detainees in juvenile facilities and lockups, with inmates detained in a prison or jail, or with residents of community confinement facilities. The Hawaii State Judiciary shall not hire or promote anyone who has engaged in sexual abuse in such facilities, has been convicted of certain sexual activities, has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity, or has been the subject of substantiated allegations of sexual abuse or sexual harassment, or resigned during a pending investigation.
