
MILITARY PAY TECHNICIAN.

Responsibilities
Review and validate military out‑of‑service claims and a small number of civilian claims, researching unclear claims and communicating directly with claimants for clarification.
Manually calculate payments for members based on board directives and claim research, often reconstructing records and computing multi‑year tax and pay information.
Prepare payment vouchers after claim adjudication; reconstruct and correct the appropriate pay systems (DJMS and MCTFS) to accurately reflect necessary adjustments.
Analyze records, determine corrective actions, and input transactions to correct military records and review claims, using knowledge of active duty, reserve, and out‑of‑service pay systems.
Utilize various automated systems to accurately review and process claims and corrective actions.
Qualifications
Time‑in‑Grade:
Current or former federal employees who have held a GS position in the preceding 52 weeks must meet the time‑in‑grade requirement. To be considered for GS‑06, applicants must have served 52 weeks at GS‑05 or higher. To be considered for GS‑07, applicants must have served 52 weeks at GS‑06 or higher.
Specialized Experience:
One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS‑05 for GS‑06 applicants, GS‑06 for GS‑07 applicants) within the federal service is required.
GS‑06 Specialized Experience:
research, interpret, and apply a wide range of military pay regulations and laws to identify problems and recommend solutions.
GS‑07 Specialized Experience:
research, interpret, and apply a wide range of military pay regulations and laws to resolve a wide range of issues and use various automated systems to accurately process claims and corrective actions.
Education (Substitution of Education for Specialized Experience):
GS‑06: Six months of graduate education may be substituted if directly related to the work of the position. Transcripts must be submitted at application time.
GS‑07: One full year of graduate level education may be substituted if directly related to the work of the position. Transcripts must be submitted at application time.
Required Conditions of Employment:
U.S. Citizen or National.
Security clearance (classified information) necessary; failure to maintain eligibility may result in termination.
Registered for Selective Service (males born after 12‑31‑1959).
Suitable for federal employment.
Served at least 3 months after the most recent competitive appointment in the federal service.
New employees must pass the E‑Verify employment verification check.
Must obtain and maintain the Level 1 Financial Management Certification required by DoD Instruction 1300.26.
Telework availability is limited and will only be provided on a case‑by‑case basis when Agency Leadership deems it necessary.

Moving expenses will not be paid.
Selections are subject to restrictions resulting from the DoD Program for Stability of Civilian Employment.
As a condition of employment, you may be required to serve a 1‑year probationary period; employment will be terminated at the end of the period unless certification of continued performance is received.
This position is non‑exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act.
Travel requirement: None.
This position is covered by a bargaining unit.
Priority Placement Program (PPP) Military Spouse Preference and other PPP eligibility may provide priority consideration at the highest applicable grade level.
Pay for first‑time hires is typically set at step 1 of the salary range for the respective grade level.
