Job Description
6.5 hours per day is a full‑time position.

Reports to: Head Cook.

Job Objectives:
Prepares and serves meals. Maintains high standards to ensure quality services and customer satisfaction. Maintains a sanitary and orderly kitchen.

Qualifications

High school diploma.

Meets all mandated health requirements (e.g., a negative tuberculosis test, etc.).

A record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment.

Complies with drug‑free workplace rules and board policies.

Food production skills and ability to use commercial kitchen equipment.

Successful completion of a board‑approved food safety and sanitation course.

Ability to comply with nutrition, health, and safety regulations.

Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts.

Meets all prerequisite qualifications to be bonded.

Responsibilities

Check with head cook for assignments and instructions; follow directions and seek advice when necessary.

Uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures.

Support parent/community partnerships that enhance district programs.

Use products and supplies to control costs and reduce waste; advise head cook about inventory needs.

Follow approved receiving and storage procedures to ensure food safety; assist with deliveries; verify quantities; report shortages, spoilage or inferior products; organize, store, date and rotate stock as directed.

Follow published menus and ensure compliance with all food preparation regulations.

Use standardized recipes to maintain quality control; monitor production sheets; help other staff to meet schedules.

Recommend menu modifications in response to customer requests.

Set up serving lines; present food attractively; replenish supplies; monitor portion size to comply with district specifications; promptly provide substitute menu items when needed.

Properly store or dispose of leftover food.

Operate the cash register as directed; do not leave it unattended.

Help account for all lunches; use cafeteria receipts to prepare bank deposits; make deposits and submit daily records to treasurer’s office as directed.

Maintain accurate records and submit reports on time.

Monitor kitchen safety; ensure supplies and equipment are properly stored; identify maintenance needs and notify head cook.

Promptly document all injuries requiring medical attention.

Clean, wash and sanitize equipment and food preparation areas.

Learn to operate fire and safety equipment.

Help prepare for fire, health and safety inspections.

Maintain confidentiality of privileged information.

Assist with special district events and rental groups as directed; secure kitchen and storage areas.

Report student discipline problems, vandalism and related concerns.

Take precautions to ensure safety; watch for behavior that may indicate a problem; work with staff to eliminate unacceptable behavior.

Report suspected child abuse and/or neglect as required by law.

Participate in staff meetings and professional growth opportunities.

Accept personal responsibility for decisions and conduct.

Wear appropriate work attire and maintain a neat appearance.

Strive to develop rapport and serve as a positive role model.

Perform other specific job‑related duties as directed.

Potential for interaction with aggressive, disruptive, and/or unruly individuals.
