Manager – Personal Care (FMCG)
We are looking for a Manager – Personal Care to lead the end‑to‑end development of our private label portfolio (shampoo, hair oil, face wash, toothpaste, body soaps, etc.). This role will be responsible for building high‑quality, value‑for‑money products tailored for Bharat consumers, ensuring strong unit economics, reliable manufacturing partnerships, and consistent product performance.
Key Responsibilities
Product Strategy & Portfolio Planning
Identify which categories and SKUs to launch within personal care
Define SKU mix (price points, sizes, variants) based on target consumers
Conduct field visits (stores, rural markets) to gather real consumer insights
Build phase‑wise product launch roadmap
Product Formulation & Quality
Work closely with manufacturers/labs to develop formulations
Ensure quality benchmarks vs leading brands (HUL, Dabur, P&G, Patanjali, etc.)
Define ingredient standards, fragrance profiles, texture, shelf life
Drive lab testing, stability testing, and compliance checks
Ensure all products meet regulatory requirements (BIS/FSSAI where applicable)
Manufacturer Sourcing & Onboarding
Identify and onboard third‑party manufacturers (contract manufacturers)
Negotiate and finalize commercial agreements
Evaluate manufacturers on:
Capability
Certifications
Cost efficiency
Scalability
Build redundancy in supply base
Costing & Commercial Structuring
Drive product costing (RM, PM, conversion, logistics)
Optimize for target margins while maintaining quality
Finalize:
MOQ (Minimum Order Quantities)
Batch sizes
Packaging costs
Continuously work on cost reduction levers
Packaging Development
Decide packing formats (sachets, bottles, tubes, bars, etc.)
Finalize:
Packaging materials
Vendor selection
Packaging MOQ
Ensure packaging is:
Cost‑effective
Durable for rural logistics
Visually appealing
Sampling & Product Testing
Drive sampling cycles with multiple manufacturers
Conduct internal and external product trials
Coordinate consumer testing / feedback loops
Work with labs for:
Microbiological testing
Stability testing
Safety validation
Competitor Benchmarking
Benchmark against leading brands on:
Price vs grammage
Formulation quality
Packaging
Consumer perception
Identify white spaces and differentiation opportunities
Cross‑Functional Coordination
Work with:
Design team (packaging & branding)
Supply chain team (inventory planning)
Category & sales team (demand inputs)
Finance team
Ensure smooth product launch and scale‑up
Key Requirements
Must‑Have
Background in Chemistry, production and NPD in similar categories
4–7 years experience in:
FMCG product development
Personal care / cosmetics category
Strong understanding of:
Formulations (shampoo, oils, soaps, toothpaste, etc.)
Ingredient functionality
Quality testing processes
Good‑to‑Have
Experience working with contract manufacturers
Understanding of cost engineering in FMCG
Prior experience in private label / personal care brands
Skills Required
Strong analytical & costing mindset
Ability to balance quality vs cost
High ownership and execution speed
Vendor negotiation & stakeholder management
Detail‑oriented with strong process thinking
