Description
The purpose of this position is to provide Emergency Medical Services to patients and transport sick or injured persons to medical facilities, working as a member of an emergency medical team.
Minimum Qualifications
Education Completion of courses/training to satisfy the State of Oklahoma and National Licensure requirements for Emergency Medical Technician (EMT).
Experience One (1) year related experience is preferred.
Licenses & Certification Incumbent must possess current State of Oklahoma and National EMT licensure. Incumbent must possess current American Heart Association BLS certification.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Knowledge of State and National Emergency Medical Technician operations and resources.
- Knowledge of specific techniques and instruments and the ability to recognize factors which could directly affect results.
- Ability to communicate courteously and effectively with Hospital staff as well as the public, both orally and in writing.
- Skill and ability to work as a member of an emergency medical team.
- Ability to maintain a confident, professional demeanor.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
Job Summary
The purpose of this position is to provide Emergency Medical Services to patients and transport sick or injured persons to medical facilities, working as a member of an emergency medical team.
Work Environment
Work is performed in a variety of constantly changing settings out in the field such as nursing homes, patient homes and hazardous accident scenes/catastrophes, etc. Incumbent is subject to being exposed to all forms of weather.
Physical Demands
Work requires periods of highly stressful activities while working with patients in emergency situations requiring bending, lifting, stooping, stretching and positioning patients. Performance of positional duties will require incumbent to be able to lift in excess 50 pounds.
Essential Functions
- Administer first-aid treatment to and transport sick or injured persons to medical facilities, working as a member of an emergency medical team.
- Respond to instructions from emergency medical dispatchers and drive a specially equipped emergency vehicle to a specified location.
- Monitor communication equipment to maintain contact with the dispatcher.
- Remove or assist in the removal of victims from the scene of an accident or a catastrophe.
- Administer prescribed first-aid treatment at the site of the emergency, or in the specially equipped vehicle, performing such activities as application of splints, administration of oxygen or treatment of minor wounds or abrasions, or the administration of artificial resuscitation.
- Communicate with professional medical personnel at emergency treatment facilities to obtain instructions regarding further treatment and to arrange for the reception of victims at treatment facilities.
- Assist in the removal of victims from vehicles and the transfer of victims to treatment centers.
- Assist the treatment center admitting personnel in obtaining and recording information related to the victim's statistics and circumstances of the emergency.
- Maintain vehicles, medical equipment and communication equipment and replenishes first-aid equipment and supplies.
- May assist in controlling crowds, protecting valuables, or performing other duties at the scene of the accident or catastrophe. Assist professional medical personnel in emergency treatment administered at the medical facility.
- Regular attendance is required.
- Performs other duties as required.
