Departmental Overview
The UC Berkeley Molecular Therapeutics Initiative (MTI) reinvents drug discovery at the interface of academia and biotech by building on unique strengths of UC Berkeley: a detailed mechanistic understanding of the pathobiology at the heart of disease; the collaborative and interdisciplinary research between UC Berkeley laboratories in biology, chemistry and computational science; and the deep relationships between MTI faculty and the biotech and venture capital world. The MTI will catalyze a new generation of innovative therapeutic modalities, bringing together fundamental discoveries in human disease biology with pioneering technologies to tackle the most challenging diseases of our time.
Position Summary
This position is responsible for laboratory duties, including assisting with planning, execution, and data collection for a research project, and working under close supervision.
Responsibilities
Laboratory Support and Experiment Preparation (65%)
Assisting with laboratory management and supporting scientific investigations and experiments.
Prepare buffers and reagents for experiments.
Data Collection and Analysis (10%)
Recording and analyzing data.
Sample Handling (10%)
Collecting, preparing and/or testing samples.
Communication of Results (5%)
Presenting results to senior staff.
Documentation and Reporting (5%)
Writing reports, reviews and summaries.
Professional Development (5%)
Keeping up to date with relevant scientific and technical developments.
Required Qualifications
Working knowledge of research function.
Skills to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in writing.
Ability to assist with research experiments under supervision.
Ability to follow instructions, attention to details.

Under California law, the University of California, Berkeley is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. The budgeted annual salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $25.75, Step 1.
This is a non-exempt, bi-weekly paid position.
This is an 8-month, full-time (40 hours/week), limited (temporary) appointment eligible for UC benefits, with the possibility of extension up to 18 months, contingent on funding.
