Mechanical Engineer

Actalent, Oklahoma City, OK, United States

Mechanical Engineer – Aerospace Repair & R&D
We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer with strong aerospace component design experience and hands‑on exposure to a Component Repair Station (CRS) environment. This role blends mechanical design, repair engineering, and applied R&D, supporting the development and optimization of compliant, cost‑effective aerospace repair solutions through digital design and manufacturing (DDM).

The ideal candidate is highly proficient in SolidWorks CAD modeling, comfortable working with mechanical and electromechanical components, and experienced in reverse engineering, repair development, and engineering change management. You’ll play a key role in modernizing repair processes, improving manufacturability, and extending the life of aerospace components—all while working within FAA/EASA Part 145 and AS9100 quality frameworks.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and optimize mechanical designs for aerospace component repair using SolidWorks, including 3D models, assemblies, and detailed engineering drawings.

Support repair engineering activities, including reverse engineering of OEM components, repair development, and technical dispositioning.

Lead R&D initiatives to develop new repair methods, tooling, fixtures, and prototype components.

Apply Digital Design & Manufacturing (DDM) workflows to improve repair efficiency, reduce turnaround time, and enhance manufacturability.

Conduct failure analysis to identify root causes, document findings, and recommend corrective actions to improve reliability and performance.

Design and validate custom tooling and fixtures to support repair and manufacturing operations.

Prepare and maintain high‑quality engineering documentation, including repair instructions, deviation requests, and technical reports.

Collaborate cross‑functionally with operations, quality, supply chain, and regulatory teams to ensure compliance with aerospace standards and repair station requirements.

Support continuous improvement initiatives, applying DFM, DFA, and DDM principles to reduce cost and improve operational efficiency.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.

Strong proficiency in SolidWorks and 3D CAD modeling.

Experience with reverse engineering and mechanical component design.

Working knowledge of engineering change management processes.

Familiarity with AS9100 and ISO 9001 quality systems.

Experience supporting or working within an aerospace repair or manufacturing environment.

Strong documentation, problem‑solving, and cross‑functional communication skills.

Preferred Experience

Exposure to FEA and structural analysis.

Experience with additive manufacturing or rapid prototyping.

Tooling and fixture design expertise.

Knowledge of reliability engineering principles.

Familiarity with advanced reverse engineering tools and methods.
