The Opportunity
This field-based role supports transformer and substation service activities across customer sites in the United States. As a Field Service Technician, you will perform hands-on mechanical service, inspection, maintenance, and repair work on power equipment in electrical substations. The work is practical, physically active, and centered on resolving real-world operating issues that affect the safe and reliable performance of power systems. You will work directly at customer sites, supporting service execution, troubleshooting equipment concerns, and contributing to lifecycle maintenance activities. The role requires adaptability to changing site conditions, close coordination with site leaders and service teams, and attention to detail when documenting work performed. Your presence in the field plays a direct role in helping customers maintain dependable electrical infrastructure while operating safely in demanding industrial environments.
This position is based in Santa Fe Springs, California.
How You’ll Make An Impact
Perform mechanical service work on electrical equipment located in substations
Inspect equipment, structures, and materials at job sites to identify defects or causes of equipment issues
Service, repair, and adjust mechanical components of power equipment
Review equipment conditions and available data to determine appropriate corrective actions
Operate and maintain vacuum oil processors and oil handling equipment under site direction
Complete vacuum oil processing logs and required site documentation
Support transformer testing activities at customer locations
Use internal and external computer systems to enter, process, and manage service-related information
Responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.
Your Background
Candidate must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in the United States.
High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of 2 years of professional work experience
Experience performing mechanical work in industrial or field environments
Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting, climbing, and extended periods of standing, bending, and walking
Valid driver’s license with availability to travel up to 85%
Familiarity with basic computer usage for data entry and service documentation
Class A CDL and welding experience are beneficial

In accordance with California law, the expected wage for this position is $36.815 per hour. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as experience, skills, and job-related qualifications.
