$150K/year plus bonus (based on experience and qualifications)
About the Role
Lead the mechanical engineering and energy optimization initiatives across Exigent's portfolio, focusing on commercial HVAC systems design and building performance enhancement. This strategic technical role offers the unique opportunity to:
Drive energy efficiency and sustainability solutions for critical facilities
Execute complex MEP designs using industry-leading tools including AutoCAD, Revit, and energy modeling software
Work directly with clients and operating companies to shape technical strategy
Lead engineering teams in a high-growth, resource-rich environment
Apply expertise across diverse sectors including healthcare, education, and government facilities
The ideal candidate brings 7-10 years of mechanical engineering experience, strong technical aptitude, and passion for energy optimization. This role offers significant growth potential as we continue expanding our engineering services portfolio.
*Professional Engineer (PE) license required (or must be able to obtain within 6 months).
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Leadership & Design (40%)
Lead mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection design for new construction and renovations
Develop construction documents and specifications for consulting and design-build projects
Oversee engineering calculations for equipment and systems sizing
Direct HVAC load calculations and energy modeling using industry software
Ensure code compliance and technical accuracy across all deliverables
Energy Analysis & Optimization (25%)
Conduct comprehensive energy audits and building performance assessments
Identify and evaluate energy conservation measures (ECMs)
Perform energy savings calculations and ROI analysis
Support sustainability and ESG initiatives
Develop cost budgets and technical specifications for energy retrofits
Project Management (20%)
Manage multiple engineering projects from conception through construction completion
Coordinate with contractors, clients, and internal teams
Conduct site visits and field investigations
Monitor project budgets and timelines
Ensure quality control of deliverables
Technical Leadership (15%)
Provide mentorship to junior engineers
Research and implement new technologies and best practices
Support business development efforts with technical expertise
Collaborate with operating companies on complex technical challenges
Maintain knowledge of industry standards and regulations
What We’re Looking For
7-10 Years of MEP Experience:
Proven success in commercial HVAC systems design and energy engineering, with deep expertise in mechanical, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
Technical Excellence:
Professional Engineer (PE) license required (or must be able to obtain within 6 months). Strong proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, Carrier HAP, Trane TRACE, and energy modeling software.
Project Leadership:
Track record managing complex engineering projects and coordinating with diverse stakeholders.
Energy Optimization Expert:
Experience with building performance analysis, energy conservation measures, and sustainability initiatives.
People Developer:
History of mentoring engineering teams and collaborating across departments.
Educational Background:
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering required; advanced degree preferred.
Growth Mindset:
