Early Career Geological Engineer

WSP is currently initiating a search for a full‑time Early Career Geological Engineer in our New York, NY office. This junior level position offers an opportunity to join a fast‑paced team working on subsurface investigations throughout the United States and will spend up to 75 % of the time in the field.

Your Impact

Assist and contribute to technical reports, including geotechnical data reports, geological interpretive reports, geotechnical baseline reports, geologic profiles, and technical memorandums, and compile field and laboratory data.

Work safely and efficiently in both field and office environments, adapting to all weather conditions, lifting and moving up to 50 pounds, and operating a motor vehicle.

Participate in a range of field activities such as soil classification, rock logging, oversight of soil and rock permeability tests (slug tests, hydraulic stress tests), instrumentation installation (observation wells, vibrating‑wire piezometers, multi‑point extensometers, inclinometers), and coordination of drilling and geophysical subcontractors.

Accurately document daily site activities (field forms, logs, daily reports, field notes) and communicate site conditions in a timely manner.

Travel locally and nationally for short‑ and long‑term assignments.

Who You Are
Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Geology or Engineering Geology.

0–1 year of experience working as a Geologist.

Computer skills and experience with industry‑standard commercial software including Microsoft Office, Bentley gINT, Openground, etc.

Excellent verbal, written, and organizational skills with a positive attitude and ability to work independently and within groups.

Strong problem‑solving abilities, enthusiasm, and resourcefulness.

Understanding of health & safety as a top priority.

The selected candidate must be authorized to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with RocScience SWedge, Unwedge, ArcGIS, Bentley gINT, Openground, Leapfrog, DIPS, GIS data presentation and modeling software.

Completed coursework in Structural Geology, Petrology, Hydrogeology, Stratigraphy, Engineering Geology, and Geomorphology.

Desire to work toward and obtain a New York Professional Geologist licence.

Experience with soil logging using the modified Burmister classification system and ISRM rock logging techniques for tunnelling projects.

10‑Hour OSHA Construction Safety Training.

Compensation
Expected Salary: $69,000 – $96,030.
