Embedded Software Engineer – RTOS, Automotive, Wireless
We need Embedded Software Engineers (varied seniority levels) and be part of the microcontroller which is designing the software stack from ground up to enable a best in class vehicle infotainment platform using the latest technologies. You will be contributing to key features like vehicle access, networking and power management for highly complex systems across various domains to improve performance as well as the user experience for Ford customers.
Job Responsibilities
Define, design and develop complex embedded software features with multiple stakeholders for the next generation of Ford Electric Vehicles.
Collaborate with the Software, Hardware, Systems and Integration teams to develop requirements, design system architecture, develop software and functional test cases for features and including CI/CD tests wherever applicable.
Lead the effort to diagnose and improve existing features to enhance the Ford customer experience.
Collaborate with teams across software, hardware, integration, UI/UX and others to drive innovation and tackle any issues that arise throughout the product development cycle.
Develop tooling as well as diagnostic and other interfaces between various vehicle access components.
Integrate the software and feature into the controller’s codebase.
Use data driven analysis tools to verify and diagnose vehicle software in the field.
Basic qualifications we are looking for:
5-8+ years proven working experience in software engineering.
Experience in hands‑on development and troubleshooting of embedded systems.
Experience in automotive systems and applications.
Strong programming skills & experience in C, C++ and Python.
Experience with Real Time Operating Systems (RTOS), Linux and building concurrent systems.
Experience with automotive networks like CAN, LIN, automotive Ethernet.
Experience with wireless networks like BLE, UWB, NFC and WiFi.
Strong documentation, writing, and communications skills.
Even better, you may have:
Familiarity with Vector and Intrepid tools
Familiarity with MISRA, AutoSAR and functional safety (ISO 26262)
Experience negotiating with hardware and or software vendors
Need individuals who have experience working with some of the following:
Digital Key / Phone as a Key (PaaK) - The main item that needs immediate help
Wireless tech stack - NFC, BLE, UWB and their nitty gritty.
Experience with and understanding of the CCC 3.x specifications.
Ability to comprehend the CCC specs and translate them into Software Systems Engineering and Architecture.
Data exchange and handshake between various ECUs and Cloud.
Phone localization using UWB anchors/sensors data.
Ability to write embedded software applicable to the E2E development of the PaaK Feature.
Core Embedded Platform Software development experience.
OTA E2E development and validation.
Hands on working, development and debugging knowledge of SPI, CAN, Ethernet communication protocols.
NXP Development Environment - NXP Design Studio, RTD Drivers (currently on 4.0 and need to migrate to 5.0), NXP FS26 PMIC and other FuSA drivers, other NXP items (evolving scope based on Platform team's findings and direction).
GHS Development Stack - Compiler, uVelocity RTOS, GHNET.
Filesystems (Tuxera), NVM.
Cybersecurity - WolfSSL, Secure Boot.
Performance analysis using debug tools and evolution of the overall software for performance optimization.
Automotive Diagnostics - UDS, OBD‑II, DIDS/RIDS
