Job Summary
The Assurance Senior Associate, Non‑Profit & Healthcare will coordinate the day‑to‑day "in‑charge" duties of planning, fieldwork, and "wrap‑up" including the preparation of financial statements with disclosures, applying GAAP, and validating, testing, and assessing control systems. The role also serves as the primary client contact for questions, trains staff, and serves as the main liaison with BDO RISE.

Responsibilities
Control Environment

Apply knowledge of transactional flow and key cycles to complete audit work.

Document and assess the design and operating effectiveness of the client’s internal control system.

Identify and communicate recommended improvements to reduce risk.

Provide on‑the‑job training and supervise audit staff during fieldwork.

GAAP

Apply accounting principles to client transactions and document their application.

Communicate financial statement disclosure requirements to clients.

Draft complex financial statements with required disclosures.

Stay current on pronouncements and discuss alternatives with management.

Identify complex accounting issues and bring them to superiors.

Coach junior team members on new accounting areas.

Consider Uniform Guidance in Government audits.

GAAS

Formulate and communicate the audit plan.

Apply GAAS to complex issues and consult others as needed.

Exercise audit skepticism and adjust testing scope.

Use BDO audit manual appropriately.

Document deviations from BDO policy with approval.

Methodology

Apply BDO audit manual to deliver quality services.

Coordinate day‑to‑day audit activities to meet schedule and budget.

Utilize BDO tools and technology for efficient audit execution.

Identify and propose solutions to critical issues.

Research

Use authoritative sources to draw conclusions on target issues.

Research complex accounting areas independently.

Assist the manager in gathering business and system information.

Draft the Audit Planning Document and create audit programs.

Collaborate on audit staff assignments.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Provide verbal and written performance feedback.

Supervise work assignments of audit associates.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (required).

Master’s degree in Accountancy (preferred).

Experience

3+ years in public accounting (required).

1+ year supervisory experience (preferred).

1+ year healthcare industry experience (preferred).

1+ year nonprofit audit experience (preferred).

License/Certifications

CPA (preferred).

Actively pursuing CPA licensing requirements (preferred).

Software

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) (preferred).

Experience with assurance applications and research tools (preferred).

Solid understanding of audit processes for basic private companies.

Knowledge of internal controls and professional standards (GAAP, GAAS).

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to multi‑task independently and in a team.

Detail‑oriented, deadline‑driven work stamina.

Project management skills.

Compensation
Maryland: $78,000 – $93,000
NYC/Long Island/Westchester: $84,000 – $105,000
Washington DC: $78,000 – $93,000
