Salary: $20.00; Grade: 4
Job Summary
The Arizona Secretary of State’s Office Initiative Internship Program provides students who are interested in public service the opportunity to spend 5 weeks (June 29, 2026, to July 31, 2026) working with the Elections Division. The Elections Division is looking for students who want to learn about election administration and support the initiative review process leading up to the 2026 election. As a summer intern with the Elections Division, interns will observe how state government functions and attend trainings related to election administration. Interns will learn how to research state statutes and the requirements of Arizona’s initiative process. Interns will contribute to the team by reviewing initiative petition sheets and complying with statutory requirements. Students or recent graduates interested in public service and witnessing democracy in action are encouraged to apply.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs)
Knowledge of basic office professionalism
Basic knowledge of policy, government, public administration, or law
Skill in active listening
Skill in critical thinking, using logic and reasoning to approach problems
Skill in working effectively with a team
Skill in basic computer navigation
Ability to be extremely detail-oriented
Ability to adapt to changes in processes or responsibilities
Ability to initiate and follow-through with tasks
Ability to remain objective and non-partisan while serving as an intern under the Secretary of State
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
Ability to stand for long periods of time
Selective Preference(s)
Coursework in public policy, public administration, government or law is preferred
Demonstrated interest in public service
Pre-Employment Requirements
Must possess a valid AZ driver's license or state picture ID
Must be enrolled at, or a graduate of, a university, community college, or technical school. Graduating high school seniors and high school juniors may also apply. (Proof of enrollment or degree will be required upon hire.)
Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75
Must be able to participate full-time from June 29, 2026, to July 31, 2026, including weekends, the 4th of July holiday and overtime. No part-time positions available.
Must be at least 16 years old
All newly hired State employees are subject to and must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).
