Position Summary
Converse County School District #1 is seeking a K‑1 / K‑8 Rural Art Teacher to serve at Douglas Primary School and Douglas Rural Schools. Candidates should hold an art certificate/endorsement and may also support art instruction at DRS.
Purpose Statement
This role supports the instructional process by supervising students, developing lesson plans, delivering group and individual instruction in established curriculum guidelines, collaborating with instructional staff and administrators, and responding to inquiries from parents and guardians. The position emphasizes basic art concepts and integrates social‑studies standards through richer literacy and reading. The teacher reports to the Principal.
Essential Functions
Adapt classroom work to provide instructional materials that address individualized learning plans within established lesson plans.
Administer developmental testing programs and subject‑specific assessments to evaluate student competency levels and develop individual learning plans.
Assess student progress toward learning goals and provide feedback to students, parents, and administration.
Collaborate with instructional staff, school personnel, parents, and community resources to improve overall quality of student outcomes.
Coordinate activities such as field trips, transportation, and classroom resources to ensure equipment and personnel availability.
Counsel students for performance, health, problem‑solving, and personal issues.
Demonstrate effective classroom and subject‑specific teaching methods that address individual student needs.
Direct student teachers, paraprofessionals, volunteers, and student workers to provide an effective program.
Instruct students to improve academic, interpersonal, and daily living skills.
Maintain accurate records of student learning and use district grading systems to evaluate knowledge and content.
Model social and interpersonal behavior, including conversation, manners, cleanup, and listening skills.
Monitor students in various educational environments to provide a safe and positive learning environment.
Organize age‑appropriate indoor and outdoor activities to encourage student participation.
Participate in meetings and gather information necessary for performing duties.
Prepare written documents such as grades, attendance, and anecdotal records to document student progress and meet mandated requirements.
Report incidents, including fights, suspected abuse, substance issues, or discipline problems, to maintain student safety and adhere to policies.
Respond to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns and appropriately direct personnel.
Respond to inquiries from teachers, parents, administrators, and others to resolve issues and provide information.
Education
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in an education discipline applicable to the teaching assignment.
