Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Cardiothoracic Donor Procurement Surgeon to join a premier transplant program in New York. This role focuses on the surgical recovery of thoracic organs, including heart and lungs, and plays a critical part in life-saving transplant procedures.

The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise in cardiothoracic surgery, with a passion for donor management, organ preservation, and collaboration within a multidisciplinary transplant team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform donor procurement surgeries for thoracic organs, including heart and lungs
  • Travel for organ recovery cases as part of an on-call procurement team
  • Evaluate donor suitability in collaboration with transplant coordinators and physicians
  • Ensure adherence to UNOS/OPTN guidelines and regulatory standards
  • Collaborate closely with transplant surgeons, perfusionists, and OPO teams
  • Maintain accurate documentation and participate in quality assurance initiatives
  • Participate in program development and performance improvement efforts

Qualifications
  • MD or DO degree from an accredited institution
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Cardiothoracic Surgery
  • Fellowship training in Cardiothoracic Surgery required
  • Experience in donor procurement strongly preferred
  • Eligible for or active New York medical license
  • Strong surgical skills with the ability to work in high-pressure environments
  • Willingness to travel and participate in a demanding on-call schedule
