
HR Generalist

Compensation: $80,000-$85,000
Type: Open to both direct hire and temp-to-hire candidates
Overview
A well-established nonprofit organization in Camarillo is seeking a skilled and proactive HR Generalist to join their team. This is a highly visible, hands‑on role supporting all HR operations. The ideal candidate is an independent, detail‑oriented HR professional who thrives in a fast‑paced environment, exercises strong judgment, and communicates with professionalism and discretion. This opportunity is looking to pay between 75k-80k and is open to considering candidates at both a direct hire or temp-to-hire capacity.
Key Responsibilities
Manage full-cycle leave of absence processes, including FMLA, CFRA, disability, and personal leaves
Coordinate employee accommodation requests in compliance with ADA and California law
Serve as a first point of contact for employee relations matters, investigations, and documentation
Draft HR communications, including coaching memos, corrective action letters, and policy updates
Support recruiting efforts, including screening, interview coordination, and hiring manager partnership
Maintain employee files, HRIS data accuracy, and audit‑ready HR records
Support onboarding, offboarding, and general HR administration
Assist with benefits questions, open enrollment, and broker communication
Ensure compliance with California labor laws and nonprofit HR standards
Collaborate with finance and payroll teams as needed for employee changes
Ideal Candidate
Self‑starter who takes ownership and works well with minimal supervision
Strong judgment and professionalism when handling sensitive situations
Excellent written communication skills; HR documentation is a core function of this role
Able to manage competing priorities in a dynamic workplace
Comfortable working in a campus setting where families and children are present on site
Requirements
3-5 years of HR Generalist experience
Experience in the non‑profit industry is preferred, not required
Strong knowledge of California employment law
Experience managing leave of absence and employee accommodations
Solid employee relations background
Experience with an HRIS system (Paycom a plus)
Bachelor's degree in HR, Business, or related field preferred, equivalent experience considered
Must be able to pass an extensive background check, including Live Scan, DOJ clearance, TB test, physical, and community care licensing (cannabis included as this is a federal contractor)
