Overview
You will work for the New Jersey Judiciary – Essex Vicinage as part of the Trial Court Administrator's Ombudsman Office. This role is for a self-starter who will handle a variety of clerical, administrative and support functions that assist proceedings before the courts and serve clients and customers of the New Jersey court system.
Job duties include providing referral information, answering questions about court processes and procedures, responding to internal and external customer inquiries and complaints by phone and in person, providing forms and assistance in completing them, troubleshooting problem cases and reporting issues, performing case look-ups (courtroom assignments, NJ KIDS finance, bench warrants, arrears, case numbers for all case types), maintaining publication supplies and handling other duties as required.
Remote Work
This position offers a hybrid schedule and may qualify for up to two days of remote work outside of Judiciary buildings. Remote work requires installation of a multifactor authentication app and high-speed home internet access.
Salary & Benefits
Salary Range:
$45,877.84 to $69,484.11 (Schedule A)
and
$45,877.84 to $62,203.88 (Schedule B) . Newly hired individuals typically start at the minimum of the range. Promotion or advancement for current employees results in a 5% increase of base salary, not to exceed the maximum of the range, or the minimum salary of the band, whichever is greater.
Judiciary employees hired prior to August 21, 2014 are considered Schedule A. Newly hired individuals and employees hired on or after August 21, 2014 are considered Schedule B.

Responsibilities
Provide referral information and clarify court processes and procedures to applicants and the public.
Answer customer inquiries and complaints via telephone and in person.
Distribute forms and offer assistance in completing them.
Troubleshoot problem cases and report issues to appropriate supervisors.
Perform case look-ups for courtroom assignments, NJ KIDS finance, bench warrants, arrears, and case numbers for all case types.
Maintain publication supplies and assist with building statistics and other duties as required.
Qualifications
One year of experience in an office environment performing clerical and support services, including keyboarding.
Experience in document or information processing, handling payments for fees, recording monies received, reconciling balances or accounts, and/or scheduling meetings or appointments.
Typically labeled as a self-starter with strong organizational and communication skills.
For external applicants: one year of office experience as described above.
For internal applicants: successful completion of the Working Test Period in any of the following titles – Judiciary Clerk 2, Judiciary Clerk 2 Bilingual, Judiciary Account Clerk 1, Judiciary Account Clerk 1 Bilingual.
Physical Requirements
The position may require climbing, prolonged standing, stretching, bending and reaching. It may also require lifting and carrying supplies weighing from 30 to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds.
Other Requirements
Authorization to work in the United States pursuant to Department of Homeland Security regulations.
Driver’s license valid in New Jersey only if vehicle operation is required for essential duties.
Background check with fingerprinting for newly hired employees. Data will be kept confidential except for informing the individual of findings.
Newly hired employees must establish and maintain a principal residence in New Jersey within one year, unless exempted by the Employee Residency Review Committee.
