The Center for Public Safety and Justice (CPSJ) at the University of Virginia’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies seeks experienced professionals to support the delivery of executive education programs for senior public safety leaders in the National Criminal Justice Command College. The role serves as the central point of continuity across the program’s in‑person and virtual sessions located in Richmond, VA, Charlottesville, VA, Central Maryland, Central Pennsylvania, and other locations in the United States. The facilitator ensures participant engagement, instructional cohesion, and seamless integration across the curriculum.

The Facilitator serves as a consistent presence throughout the program, guiding discussion, reinforcing program culture, and supporting the integration of ideas across sessions. The individual also represents CPSJ and the University of Virginia, maintaining a professional, engaging, and intellectually rigorous environment for senior public safety leaders.

The National Criminal Justice Command College is an executive education program designed to prepare senior public safety leaders to navigate the complex operational, organizational, and community challenges facing modern criminal justice agencies. The program brings together command‑level leaders from law enforcement and other public safety disciplines to participate in a structured cohort‑based learning experience that combines academic instruction, practitioner expertise, and peer collaboration.

Through facilitated discussions, applied assignments, and capstone projects, participants translate research and best practices into practical strategies that can be implemented within their agencies. The program emphasizes peer learning and cross‑jurisdiction collaboration, building professional networks that extend beyond its duration.

Key Responsibilities
Program Facilitation and Cohort Leadership

Attend and actively facilitate all in‑person sessions for the assigned cohort.

Serve as the consistent program presence across sessions, providing continuity for participants and faculty.

Guide group discussions, reflections, and applied learning activities during sessions.

Support faculty presenters by helping frame discussions and reinforcing connections to the program’s broader themes.

Help maintain a professional and productive learning environment for executive‑level participants.

Reinforce program norms, expectations, and culture throughout the cohort experience.

Session Integration and Virtual Engagement

Support continuity between in‑person and virtual sessions through coordination with CPSJ leadership and session faculty.

Help participants connect ideas across sessions and apply lessons to real‑world leadership challenges.

Assist with facilitation of virtual discussions, cohort engagement, and participant reflection activities as needed.

Participant Engagement and Learning Support

Provide feedback on participant reflections, applied assignments, and capstone progress as requested by program instructors.

Support participant engagement, accountability, and collaboration throughout the program.

Help identify opportunities to strengthen peer learning and cohort cohesion.

Program Preparation and Closeout

Participate in planning discussions with CPSJ leadership prior to program launch.

Review curriculum materials in advance of sessions to ensure effective facilitation and integration.

Participate in program debrief discussions and provide feedback to support continuous improvement.

Assist with wrap‑up activities following the final session.

Travel required for this position will be reimbursed in accordance with university policies and federal guidelines, as applicable.

This is a wage position which is not eligible for leave or other benefits and is limited to 1,500 hours of work in a year.

Minimum Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s degree required.

Experience: 5+ years of relevant professional experience required.

Licensure: None.
