Primary Purpose
Support the district's network infrastructure to ensure reliable, secure, and efficient connectivity for campuses and administrative facilities. Assist with installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and basic administration of network systems that support instructional and business operations across the district.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required
Associate's degree in information technology, networking, or a related field preferred, or equivalent work experience
CompTIA Network+ or Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification preferred, or equivalent networking experience
Experience
One to two years of experience in technology support, networking, or a related field preferred
Knowledge And Skills
Understanding of networking fundamentals including:
Switching and VLAN configuration
IP addressing and subnetting
DNS and DHCP services
Wireless networking
Power over Ethernet (PoE)
Basic routing concepts
Network authentication such as RADIUS or 802.1X
Network security concepts including access control lists (ACLs)
Ability to troubleshoot network connectivity by verifying switch port configuration, VLAN assignments, PoE status, and wireless connectivity
Ability to prioritize support requests and communicate clearly with staff and vendors
Demonstrates initiative in learning networking technologies and developing technical skills through training, certifications, self‑study, or hands‑on lab experience
Major Responsibilities And Duties
Networking Support
Troubleshoot network connectivity issues across district campuses and facilities
Assist with switch port configuration, VLAN assignments, and basic routing changes under direction of senior network staff
Assist with troubleshooting issues related to DNS, DHCP, wireless connectivity, network authentication, and access control policies
Support network connectivity for voice, video, and other IP‑based communication systems, including VoIP phones
Follow district standards and procedures for secure network access and device connectivity
Wireless and Device Connectivity
Troubleshoot wired and wireless connectivity issues for district devices and network‑connected systems
Assist with installation, replacement, and testing of network‑connected equipment
Help verify wireless access point operation, coverage, and client connectivity
Network Infrastructure
Install, configure, replace, and maintain network infrastructure equipment such as switches, wireless access points, patch panels, and related hardware
Travel to campuses, IDFs, MDFs, and equipment rooms to troubleshoot outages and replace network equipment as needed
Assist with rack installation, cable management, patching, labeling, and organization of network closets
Trace, test, and verify copper and fiber cabling when diagnosing connectivity issues
Assist with monitoring and basic troubleshooting of UPS devices and other supporting network power systems
Operations and Support
Respond to and prioritize assigned support tickets and follow issues through resolution
Work with campus and department staff to address connectivity concerns and improve network reliability
Maintain accurate network documentation, including diagrams, inventory, labels, and configuration records
Work with vendors, service providers, and internal staff to resolve network issues and elevate more complex problems when needed
Participate in scheduled maintenance, upgrades, and implementation projects
Assist with troubleshooting network outages and service disruptions after hours when necessary
Follow district technology standards, safety procedures, and network security practices
Perform other duties as assigned
Working Conditions
Work is performed in office, campus, data center, and network closet environments. Travel between district locations is required. Occasional evening or after‑hours work may be required to perform maintenance or respond to network outages.
Physical Demands
Occasional lifting and moving of equipment up to 50 pounds. Work may involve standing, bending, climbing ladders, and working in network closets and equipment rooms.
Mental Demands
Ability to prioritize tasks, troubleshoot technical issues, and respond to urgent situations affecting network connectivity and district operations.
