Position Summary
Walters Recycling & Refuse is seeking a detail-oriented and people-focused
Human Resources Generalist
to join our HR team. This role is responsible for supporting key HR administrative functions related to
payroll, benefits, onboarding, and offboarding
while helping ensure a positive and consistent team member experience.
This position works closely with the HR team, including our Recruiter, and reports directly to the HR Manager. It is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys balancing compliance, process management, and team member support in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
Payroll
Process payroll accurately and on time
Maintain payroll data including wages, taxes, deductions, and garnishments
Review and reconcile payroll reports and resolve discrepancies
Ensure compliance with payroll laws and regulations
Serve as the main point of contact for payroll-related questions
Support year-end payroll activities, including W-2s
HR Operations
Manage onboarding and offboarding processes
Lead a welcoming One Team onboarding experience and new hire orientation
Maintain accurate and confidential team member records in HR systems
Administer benefits, including enrollments, changes, and team member support
Track time off, leaves of absence, and attendance
Respond to questions regarding HR programs, policies, and processes
Support team member engagement and recognition efforts
Compliance and Reporting
Help ensure compliance with employment laws and company policies
Track and document required training and certifications
Support HR programs such as performance management, benefits, and leave administration
Assist with audits and reporting, including ACA and EEOC
Help maintain policies and required postings
Systems and Process Support
Support team members and managers in using HR and payroll systems
Assist with HRIS updates, reporting, and data accuracy
Partner with HR and Finance to improve processes
Assist with improving and optimizing HR systems and tools
Support the Training team as needed
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required
Associate’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Accounting, or a related field
2+ years of HR experience with payroll responsibilities
Knowledge of payroll and HR compliance requirements
Experience with payroll systems and HRIS platforms
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
Clear communication and problem-solving abilities
Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and care
Preferred
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
Payroll or HR certification such as FPC, CPP, SHRM-CP, or PHR
Experience with benefits administration and open enrollment
Experience working with Finance or Accounting
Experience with UKG Ready
