Patient Access Representative - ED

This position greets customers and facilitates the patient registration process in a timely, professional, and courteous manner. The role involves interviewing patients or their representatives to obtain demographic, financial, and health information through face‑to‑face and virtual interactions. Information is used to ensure appropriate care and accurate patient registration and billing. The applicant acts as a liaison between patients, Virtual Patient Registration Representatives, and Patient Schedulers, completing patient checkout, scheduling follow‑up appointments per physician orders, and providing cost estimates and itineraries. The position also supports emergency room registration and works with the floors team, requiring standing and walking throughout the shift. Shift times vary; every other weekend and rotational holidays are required.
Key Responsibilities
Interview patients to obtain complete demographic details, financial information, and minimum health information to ensure appropriate care provision.
Obtain copies of insurance cards and other identification, update patient information in the medical record as necessary.
Perform point‑of‑service data collection, including identifying and collecting patient co‑payments and down payments, reconcile the cash drawer, and report daily deposit records associated with co‑payment collection to ensure accurate accounting of revenue.
Maintain all assigned work queues according to supervisor’s instructions and guidance.
Interact positively and in a caring manner with patients, co‑workers, and others to provide the highest level of customer service.
Answer incoming phone calls, schedule appointments, and refer to clinical team as needed.
Sanitize registration equipment between each use and restock basic supplies.
Perform other clerical duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous Patient Access Representative or Patient Scheduler experience.
Completion of Healthcare Business Insight’s Patient Access 2nd Level Certification Program within six months of hire date.
