Antietam Broadband is seeking an experienced and motivated

Maintenance & Communications Technician

to support the installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of our broadband, CATV, and fiber‑optic systems. This role supports both residential and commercial customers while helping maintain and expand our network infrastructure.

Tuesday–Saturday with on‑call rotation

Rate:

$24 - $28/hr. (based on experience)

Primary Responsibilities

Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair broadband, CATV, and fiber‑optic systems.

Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on the BB/CATV and HFC plant.

Troubleshoot system outages and individual customer service issues.

Install and maintain fiber drops, interior fiber wiring, ONTs, and customer equipment.

Perform fiber splicing (fusion and ribbon) for new construction, maintenance, restoration, and customer activation (aerial and underground).

Conduct forward and return path testing, system balancing, and power supply maintenance.

Support service technicians and assist with escalated technical issues.

Assist with new construction projects including fiber placement, terminal installation, and cutover activities.

Educate customers on installed services and equipment usage and recommend service upgrades when appropriate.

Maintain company vehicles, tools, and inventory in a clean and operational condition.

Accurately locate and mark underground services using prints, test equipment, and mapping software.

Ensure compliance with all OSHA, FCC, NEC, and local regulations.

Maintain a professional image through appearance, demeanor, safe driving habits, and customer interactions.

Participate in an on‑call rotation and work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED required.

Valid state driver’s license with a clean driving record.

3–5+ years of experience in broadband, CATV, fiber optics, telecommunications, or a related technical field.

Advanced knowledge of:

RF and IP technologies

HFC design

DOCSIS (DOCSIS 3.1 experience preferred)

Video networking and IP‑based services

Experience with optical and test equipment, including:

OTDR

Optical Power Meter

Optical Spectrum Analyzer

Fiber Identifier and Fiber Scope

Hands‑on experience with fiber splicing, fiber terminals, and distribution systems.

Strong understanding of electronics, DC power, RF, and fiber optic systems.

Ability to configure and support customer networking equipment, including Wi‑Fi routers and TCP/IP.

Strong computer skills, including Word, Excel, and diagnostic software.

Ability to work independently, plan work efficiently, and meet deadlines.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to differentiate wire and cable sizes/colors and work in tight or confined spaces.

Physically capable of lifting up to 75 pounds and performing tasks requiring bending, climbing, kneeling, and working at heights.

Comfortable working outdoors, in attics, crawl spaces, and other challenging environments.

Working Conditions

Frequent outdoor work in all weather conditions.

Exposure to dust, dirt, noise, heat, insects, and uneven terrain.

On‑call rotation approximately every 5 weeks.

Schedule adjustments may occur based on business needs.
