
Equipment Operator – Hydraulic Excavators, Skid Loader, Dozer

This role involves operating hydraulic excavation equipment for the construction or upgrade of underground utilities, including communications conduit, gas, water, sewer, electric, and more.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
Load and unload equipment in a manner that is secure and damage‑free.
Transport associated tools, materials, and equipment safely.
Complete a daily inspection of equipment before work.
Operate the equipment in conjunction with the crew to assist in placing underground utilities.
Operate equipment in accordance with company and industry standards.
Locate existing underground utilities and verify them against blueprints.
Identify utilities in the construction area and bore path.
Connect/stub‑up conduit and wire as required.
Dig pits, trenches, or potholes as required, including windows when crossing utilities.
Restore and/or landscape disturbed job‑site areas.
Accurately complete all required company documentation for each assignment (e.g., timesheet, vehicle log, expense report).
Adhere to all established company safety policies and perform work in a safe manner.
Perform other duties as assigned to help the team complete a project.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Read and interpret engineering and construction prints, plans, and specifications.
Know utility depths and placements.
Possess general knowledge of construction practices.
Work efficiently in various environments with moderate to loud noise.
Work in trenches, excavations, and manholes.
Pay attention to detail and be thorough in completing work tasks.
Work efficiently, independently, and collaboratively within a team environment.
Have excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
Move materials/equipment weighing up to 80 pounds.
Manage multiple tasks with changing priorities to meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
Able to work 5‑7 days a week, 10+ hours a day when necessary.
Willing to work outside in varying weather conditions.
Preferred Education and Experience
One year of experience operating a directional bore drill.
Previous rock‑boring experience.
One year of experience with hydraulic excavators, skid loaders, and dozers.
Class A CDL.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications
Willing and able to travel out of town with occasional overnight stays to assigned projects.
Capable of lifting at least 50 pounds on an occasional basis.
Pass pre‑employment drug test and criminal background screen.
Complete and pass a DOT physical.
Physical Demands
This position typically requires balancing, standing, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, grasping, reaching, stooping, squatting, kneeling, climbing, hearing, and speaking.
Working Conditions
The employee will be exposed to varying weather conditions as they will be driving in all types of conditions.
Travel
Travel may be required, including traveling to projects in different cities and overnight stays.
