
Material Handler - 1st Shift

Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Supervisor, the Material Handler’s primary function is to manage the physical movement of materials—such as raw goods, components, and finished products—within warehouses, production areas, and shipping/receiving zones, contributing to smooth operations and inventory accuracy.
Pull finished goods from stock using barcoding systems accurately and efficiently
Stack materials securely to prevent damage during transportation and shipping
Execute system transactions in MRP/ERP and generate required reports
Complete daily inventory cycle counts following standardized work instructions
Unload finished goods from outfeed conveyor to pallets
Manage scrap materials
Move completed pallets to shipping area
Load raw materials and offcuts into the inventory system
Perform quality inspections on finished goods to ensure compliance with standards
Coordinate shipments to be packaged and shipped ahead of due dates
Wrap and crate completed orders using cardboard and wood materials to protect goods during transit
Package finished goods for parcel shipments and process through FedEx/UPS systems
Load and unload trucks in a timely and safe manner
Coordinate daily activities within the department to meet shipping schedules
Identify and communicate potential late orders to Supervisor
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the packaging and crating area
Work safely and effectively, adhering to all company safety protocols
Partner with Supervisor and team members to ensure departmental goals are met
Other duties as required
Qualifications
1‑3 years of experience in a material handling role in distribution or warehouse operations (packaging, crating, handling hardware components)
Thorough knowledge of packaging standards and techniques to prevent freight damage
Familiarity with barcoding systems and ERP software
Proven experience with material handling—ability to handle and stack materials with care to prevent damage
Ability to operate hand tools and equipment used in wood crating
General understanding of shipping practices and documentation
Capable of flexibility and teamwork in a multi‑functional work cell
Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy and quality standards
Effective communication skills with supervisor and team
Demonstrates initiative, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn
Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain accurate inventory
Reliable worker who can commit to the schedule and available for overtime when necessary to meet operational needs
Forklift experience and certification preferred
Schedule and Compensation
Standard schedule for 2nd shift: Monday‑Friday, 2:30 PM‑11:00 PM.
Compensation range: $18.42 / hour – $21.53 / hour.
