Night Child Care Assistant-Genesis (FT)

Pay Rate: $20.47 per hour

Catholic Charities of Baltimore is currently seeking a Night Child Care Assistant.

The full‑time work schedule is Sunday through Wednesday, 10:00 p.m. – 8:00 a.m.

St. Vincent’s Villa provides comprehensive residential treatment for children, ages 5–13, whose behavioral and emotional needs have not responded to community‑based interventions and services.

Training: 6 weeks of hands‑on training for full‑time staff to complete TCI and CARE certifications.

Minimum age requirement of 21 years in accordance with COMAR 14.31.06.06.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

Ensures the safety and welfare of youth during sleeping hours by remaining alert, conducting active supervision, and responding promptly to concerns or emergencies.

Conducts and documents visual inspections of each child in the bedroom area at least every 15 minutes.

Implements prescribed nighttime treatment interventions with accuracy and vigilance.

Ensures all interactions align with agency policy, Cornell University’s CARE model, and Trauma‑Informed Care principles.

Applies crisis intervention strategies, including de‑escalation techniques and approved physical restraint, in accordance with TCI standards.

Immediately reports behavioral concerns to the Night Supervisor and medical complaints to the Night Supervisor and Health Office staff.

Maintains accurate documentation, including the Night Monitor Log every 15 minutes.

Performs additional operational duties: housekeeping, laundry, training new staff, participating in orientations, waking youth for morning routines, and assisting incoming day staff.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Position Specific

Night Child Care Assistant – Genesis (404100): Delivers direct care services within the Genesis Unit, maintaining accountability for youth supervision, safety, and compliance with agency policies.

Senior Night Child Care Assistant – Genesis (408100):

Delivers direct care services within the Genesis Unit, maintaining accountability for youth supervision, safety, and compliance with agency policies.

Assists with building supervision to support staff for call‑outs, unit crisis, and building security.

Maintains routine rounds, apartment assignment, daily coverage sheets, and other staffing needs during night shifts.

Utilizes computer systems and software necessary for position functions.

Provides transportation for youth to off‑site locations or health‑care facilities during emergencies.

Requires a valid driver's license, at least 21 years of age, and a minimum of 2 years of driving experience; no more than three points on the driving record.

Education & Experience Requirements

High school diploma or GED.

Six months of prior experience working in residential care, youth services, or a comparable setting.

Certification/Licensure

TCI training within 45 days of hire; CARE training within 6 months of hire.

CPR/First Aid within 45 days of hire.

Residential Child and Youth Care Practitioners (RCYCP) certification within 6 months of hire.

Good relational skills with a courteous demeanor toward staff, youth, and visitors.

Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Works with minimal direction or supervision.

Comfortable in an environment where clients cannot perform basic life duties.

Knowledge of basic personal care, housekeeping, and other care areas.

Thorough knowledge of safety hazards and proper use of cleaning and sanitizing solutions.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

Medium work that includes moving objects up to 50 pounds.

Standing or sitting for prolonged periods.

Communicates with others to exchange information.
