Job Summary
The City of Eustis is seeking a trustworthy, responsible individual who, under direction, performs routine bookkeeping and clerical work involving the maintenance of city financial and accounting records. The employee works with initiative and independence within the clearly defined limits of accounting policies and procedures.

Supervision Received
As assigned. Duties may include some or all of the following job functions:

Receives, codes, checks and balances charges to account classifications;

Posts to accounts payable or appropriate ledgers; balances and reconciles accounts, as required;

Prepares deposits;

Maintains and updates all required records;

Processes purchase orders for payment;

Performs follow‑up on outstanding accounts;

Prepares monthly, quarterly and annual reports, as required;

Assists in preparation of departmental budget;

Prepares and/or enters data for computer input and verifies computer printouts;

Verifies accuracy of credit card statements and billing;

Answers questions and provides information and assistance to vendors, the general public and other divisions on a regular basis;

Performs other related duties as required.

Other Job Functions

Assists the City in the preparation and aftermath of a major emergency such as a hurricane or other storm or disaster, as needed

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills
Knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping principles and procedures; knowledge of modern office practices and procedures; knowledge of data processing and computer operations, including Microsoft Word and Excel.

Ability to learn the laws, rules, guidelines, and regulations applicable to governmental accounting; ability to maintain close attention to detail in balancing and summarizing records; ability to work well with others and assist the public cooperatively and courteously; ability to remain at a city work shelter, before, during, and after a hurricane or other storm or disaster, if asked.

Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or recognized equivalent; one (1) to two (2) years’ experience in accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll; at least six (6) months additional training or education, preferably in accounting, software, business or related field; Associate’s Degree from an accredited college desirable; experience with various software programs, including Microsoft Word and Excel.

Working Hours
Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Physical Demands
This is primarily sedentary work. Requires sitting for long periods of time; bending and reaching; good finger/hand dexterity and hand/eye coordination; good eyesight.

Salary Information
$18.23 per hour ($37,920.84 per year); applicants should expect a starting salary of $18.23 per hour. Only applicants with the most job‑related qualifications will be selected for interview and further consideration. Additional consideration may be given to applicants with more extensive education, training, or experience. Final candidates will be subject to skills testing, including typing (minimum 35 CWPM). Spelling, math, grammar, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, customer service, ten‑key, and typing (minimum 35 CWPM). Following a thorough background investigation, including a criminal history and driver’s license check, the candidate will be given a conditional offer of employment.
