RF Filter Design Engineer

Nesco Resource is partnered with a well-established advanced manufacturing organization supporting high-reliability RF and microwave applications across defense, aerospace, and communications markets. Our client is seeking an experienced RF Filter Design Engineer to play a lead role in developing next-generation RF and microwave filter products from concept through production.
This position offers the opportunity to work hands-on with complex designs in a fast-paced, collaborative engineering environment while directly influencing product performance, cost, manufacturability, and time to market.
Position Summary The RF Filter Design Engineer is responsible for the design, development, and optimization of RF and microwave filter products. This individual will lead technical projects, collaborate cross-functionally with manufacturing and supply chain teams, and support the successful transition of new designs into production. The role emphasizes technical excellence, ownership of deliverables, and mentorship of less experienced engineers.
Key Responsibilities Design, simulate, and prototype RF and microwave filter products using RF synthesis and electromagnetic simulation tools
Apply sound engineering principles to meet electrical, mechanical, environmental, and regulatory requirements
Develop and manage compliance matrices for quoted and released products
Estimate material, labor, test, development costs, and lead times for new product quotations
Lead design and development projects from concept through release using established engineering processes
Optimize designs for performance, manufacturability, cost, and delivery
Provide hands-on support during prototype builds and tuning activities
Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering to develop or refine processes for new products
Partner with Purchasing to ensure timely procurement of prototype materials
Communicate project status, risks, and milestones to stakeholders
Lead or participate in design reviews, project kick-offs, and pre-ship reviews
Support existing production products related to obsolescence, reliability, quality improvements, or performance enhancements
Mentor and support engineers and technicians with less experience
Stay current on emerging RF technologies and propose new product concepts to maintain competitive advantage
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Proficiency with RF/microwave filter synthesis and simulation tools
Experience with lumped-element and/or distributed-element filter designs
Strong understanding of RF filter fabrication methods and manufacturing processes
Knowledge of cavity and dielectric resonator filters for telecom, aerospace, or defense applications
Experience designing high-power RF filters (300W preferred) and/or miniaturized designs
Strong electromagnetic CAD and analysis skills
Understanding of radio architectures, avionics systems, military communications, and radar systems
Hands-on bench-level troubleshooting and tuning skills
Strong project leadership and organizational capabilities
Effective communication skills in cross-functional engineering and production environments
Ability to work with ITAR-controlled data
Education & Experience Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering (BSEE or MSEE preferred)
10 years of experience in the RF/microwave industry
Minimum of 5 years of hands-on RF filter design experience
Experience with integrated microwave assemblies preferred
